Forums - Gaming Discussion - Anyone else think Zelda in 2015 is unacceptable?

What I find "unacceptable" are people demanding stuff like this

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

I completely agree, and I rant and rave about this quite a lot. People say that they'd rather have a great game than a rushed game, but I'm of the opinion that Nintendo doesn't take so long only because they're perfectionists, but because of bad management. They could make a very great, very polished game in three years if they put their minds to it, but they dick around for so long that it takes them forever to get anything done.

For instance, rebuilding the game from scratch every damn time is ridiculous. They need to give us more games like Majora's Mask. But no, they've always got to revamp the entire visual style and start all over from the beginning. It sounds like that's what they're doing now, and this is the worst time they could have picked to do it.

Like assassins creed maybe, the visuals and some locations are kept the same but the story and most of the characters are completeley different. That would be great if it meant a LOZ game every year but nintendo are too precious and would never make annual installments.

And again to that idea I say "No Thanks". A lot of younger gamers are too used to the practices that companies like Activision, Ubisoft and EA partake in now (and that THQ was attempting to also before they went under). There doesn't need to be nor should there be yearly installments. I don't want personally want a new Zelda with the same shitty graphics and assets year in and year out, with just a few characters and locations changed. That is absurd, and lazy. I'm just fine waiting for Nintendo to take a few years lovingly crafting a WHOLLY NEW experience for me, one that is high quality and rich on new content, instead of "getting my yearly Zelda fix" with the same exact experience time and time again, with little variations. No thanks. Assassin's Creed is NOT, in my estimation, a litmus test for any other franchise to follow.

I sure am glad people like you aren't in charge at Nintendo then. Otherwise, you'd have them be just another EA or Activision, pumping out yearly installments of Call of Duty or Madden. As a long-time gamer, and a longtime Nintendo/Zelda fan, I proudly reply: "No fucking thanks".

It's not black and white, as you seem to think it is.  There's a difference between churning out lazy garbage and just being good with your resources.  I never said anything about yearly installments.  In fact, I specifically said that three years was plenty of time for a great game.  But you decided that a knee-jerk, everything-or-nothing sort of reaction was best for my comment.

It's not about thinking that the companies owe us something.  It's about recognizing bad business practices.  Nintendo's slow release schedule isn't unacceptible because I think I deserve more games.  It's unacceptible for a game-making business to release so few games, and to spend unneccessary amounts of time on each one.

Also, I would agree with you that waiting until 2015 would be fine if it meant getting an amzing, mind-blowing Zelda adventure.  But I waited five years for Skyward Sword and didn't get anything like that, so my guard is up at the moment.

I think that's a fair complaint, it certainly seems like they're on that path though. I mean, remaking a game like Wind Waker is definitely reusing resources. I wouldn't be shocked to see the Ocarina of Time remake get ported to the Wii U with HD visuals. However, I think for the first true Zelda release on the Wii U, there has to be a focus on presentation. They shouldn't just reuse assets for this one in my opinion. After that initial release though, I don't think reusing assets is a bad idea at all.

You cannot expect them to release all their big games in one year's time because they have to sustain the system for longer than 2-3 years. Save Zelda U for next year or at least save a second Zelda game for later in the system's life.

As you know, a betting man wouldn't place money on Zelda U (mainline game, not Hyrule Warriors) coming be out in 2014.

As a betting man, I have already bet that it won't come in 2014. (See my sig)

Though of course I'd want it sooner rather than later, I agree that they should release a Zelda 'when it's done' and don't pressure it. I'd also rather have something amazing than something that's just good. Also, I agree that at least the first Zelda on a console should be completely original, but I would be fine with them releasing another two years later using the same assets like they did with Majora's Mask and to a lesser extent Twilight Princess (which uses WW's engine, but has new models and textures).

Personally I've always taken into account that Zelda U would release in 2015. It just always seemed like the most logical year considering development time and release schedule. However, there's the small hope it'll be ready this year, considering Iwata once said he'd want to have the Zelda team release the next game within just three years instead of five, and he probably didn't mean ALBW with that statement...

I think Nintendo need it to be out by the end of the 2014 financial year (ie. by close March 2015) and ideally in time for the winter sales period. And I'd like it to be out as soon as possible.

Whether or not they hit that or not we'll have to wait and see, after all; the games not even been announced yet. It could well be that they announce at e3 with a 90% finished game. Or it could be that they announce an obvious alpha build, like with Hyrule Warriors.

late 2015 is unacceptable, early 2015 isn't. but it's most likely a 2014 title anyway.

I'm not demanding, just complaining in advance.  If I could demand things to Nintendo, you would see a Mother HD remake, Star Fox, and Metroid Prime 4 by 2015 at the latest :)
