Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is Ubisoft On Some Kind of Substance!? (Assasins Creed)

I just got Assasins Creed 4: Black Flag for the Xbox One. It is a good game but is Ubisoft on some kind of drug? The game is enjoyable but there are some things that are really bugging me. This is my first Assasins Creed game here's why I think Ubisoft is on drugs.

Reason 1: All the current day missions are horribly boring and unexciting. The graphics in the current day gameplay are twice as bad as the regular story. Why bother? If I wanted to play in goddamn first person then I wouldn't have bought Assasins Creed in the first place. Is Ubisoft stupid? They should eliminate the current day altogether and use that effort to polish the glitchy climbing and make the cutscenes for the actual game better. All that the present day missons do is add gimmiky features that confuse players.

Reason 2: The gameplay has really weird things in it. These are suppose to be games based on history with fictional characters. Why the fucks is there a 2-D water tornado everywhere I look? Why wouldn't Ubisoft use something more reasonable like a tital wave or a hurricane (those actually exist in the Carribean).

Reason 3: Complicated menus. It took me a while, as a new Assasins Creed player, to figure out how to upgrade everything and navigate the menus. There is a way to make the game more accessible to players while keeping all the features, why haven't they learned this? Most people picking this game up aren't going to take advantage of the game fully.

Reason 4: Loading screens and performance. Why haven't Ubisoft released a patch to make the Xbox One version 1080p like they did for PS4? Because they are lazy and making enough money off microtransactions to even want to bother to make they're game the best it can be. This game would be even better if you didn't have a loading screen between getting on the boat and sailing. The game runs surprisingly smooth, I'm happy with that.

Reason 5: Stiff gameplay. Aiming with the boat is harder than it should be. Assasinating people on foot it very cool but climbing doesn't always work, it sometimes glitches up. Sometimes I want to run and it starts climbing for no reason. Sometimes I want to drop down and it doesn't want me to. Really annoying.

Reason 6: Collectables. The fragments are not placed cleverly at all. Just boring and stupid to collect them. Treasure chest aren't hidden like they would normally be. They are just laying in the middle of villages. Ubisoft was high placing those. Chests don't give you that feeling like they are special, just a small amount of money. Boring. Treasure maps are cool and finding the buried chests is cool. Shanty's are frusterating to catch sometimes.

I'm only about 40% done with the game (total sync) and I haven't tried the online so far the game is a solid 7/10 but it could have been to much better had they listen to the things I posted here. The good things about the game (so far) is gameplay, though sometimes repetitive, keeps you hooked. The game's graphics look good on Xbox One, a lot better than PS3, Wii U, and 360 versions. Pirates are cool. 100+ hour game time to get 100%. I recommend the game, it just could have been to much better had it been polished more and dedicated for next gen systems.

Playing through the game on PS4 now and agree with you 100 percent, Its a good game but needs some polish. (In my opinion)

Reason 1: It's obvious that you didn't play the previous games. Those present day bits might be boring to you but to fans of the series they are full of lore and mysteries further explaining the overarching story.
The climbing is still the same shit since the first game, I doubt fixing it is a high priority of Ubi.

Reason 2: It is still a game. It has to have some game mechanics or else it would be boring and even wouldn't make sense at some points. Still AC is still the most historically accurate action adventure you will find anywhere.

Reason3: The menus were revamped for ACIV. Even I as an avid fan had some trouble at first.

Reason4: Loading times weren't that long on the PS4. They were even much faster than in previous AC games. As for the resolution you should ask MS why they made it so hard to achieve 1080p ;)

To be honest it's a great launch tital but it feels last gen and rushed. Had they fixed it up a bit the game could have been one of my favorites of all time. Instead they commercialized it and made it gimmiky

I disagree with the choice to have the run button the same as climb. I would be running down a street after someone, and he would decide to climb and perch himself on a small fence post or box that happens to be near the running path.

1: They should of made the present day missions at least on par with the actual game then, it feels like the current day setting was created in two weeks or copied and pasted from the first game. It should be in third person too if they keep it. It didn't make sense to me and it shouldn't have to. If people want to get in the series late they shouldn't have to be confused/fact

2: For the most part it's great with that, the biggest flaw I found so far is the water tornados

3: It loads super quick on Xbox One as well. If it loads that quick it shouldn't even take you to a loading menu, the game should be able to hide it and load in the backround somehow. An open world games should not have to load.

Do you have toubles during large ship battles  locking onto a target while using swords on deck?

Yes I think I know what you're talking about. It can't really focus on one person and you end up getting your butt kicked then you jump out of the ship to regenerate health.

Actually all AC games are like that... they promise the world and they underdeliver. And dont get me started with the story. Jeeeeeeezus!

The story doesn't keep me interested at all. They might as well copy jack sparrow next time. I would have liked that a lot more.
