Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How will Nintendo's next console be successful?

With awesome Games at launch like Zelda, Metroid, Mario Kart or Donkey Kong Country!!!

Around the Network

Nintendo isn't financially troubled. But the Wii U can do better than it s right now. Here's a few things that will be better for them:
*Wii U Basic: at $250 (Bundled with Wii Fit U and Balance Board or Nintendo Land)
*Reviving and Renewing IP's: Examples being Star Fox, F-Zero, Metroid (if not being worked on already).
*Advertising: Have commercials shown on TV and ads on YouTube when Mario Kart, SSBU, X, Bayonetta 2, Donkey Kong Country Freeze, and Wii Fit U are released.
*Achievement system included and more option variations on MiiVerse for Wii U.
*Original IP's: Take a crack on a new IP in different genres such as an original FPS/3PS.
Of course making many games takes a lot time and don't expect Metroid, F-Zero, Star Fox, or a new IP to magically appear at your requested time, (many people want a new Metroid or F-Zero being released now).

With great first party support (hopefully some new IP), a cheaper price than it's 8th gen rivals, and better online support. Simple really.

The first thing that needs to happen is that Nintendo fans need to learn that successful doesn't mean beating Sony or Microsoft in sheer numbers. Like the PSP, it can be successful while being primarily niche.

As for Nintendo, they need to take a cold, hard look at their business model for hardware. You cannot be underpowered and expensive, not with the competition in today's market. They need to take that to heart--actually, you'd think they would have learned with the reception the 3DS received initially. Also, if they're going to gamble on innovations/gimmicks, then they're going to have more strike-outs than home-runs, especially if the gambles are expensive. That's just the way it is. If they want to keep throwing the dice on hardware, fans should expect to see more Wii U's than Wii's.

They need to scrap this "we do don't follow what others do" philosophy. That's childish. If someone else comes up with something that's really better, which people really like, then you follow the hell out of it. That in no way stops you from coming up with your own innovations and ideas, it just stops you from falling behind. An accounts system, for example, should have been in works from the moment they saw how popular it was with Xbox and Playstation. It's not about pride, it's about giving customers the best experiences.

If they're set on remaining under-powered, which is fine, then they need to diversify their own offerings. This isn't the 1980s, most people play many different genres. What they're doing now with commissioning titles from outside studios is a start but they're going to have to really support their efforts. Acquiring or creating more studios which focus on other genres would not be a bad idea. They need a signature western developer, one that works on original, western flavored IPs. Can you see a Nintendo system with their own Naughty Dog?

Speaking of Sony, they're known for the technical assistance they provide to third-party developers with specialist groups like X Dev, Naughty Dog's tech-specialist ICE Team, and Sony Santa Monica. Nintendo needs something like that.

Honestly, my feeling with Nintendo is that they just don't want to spend much money on anything. That's great short-term but it might bite them in the ass eventually--if it hasn't already.

The problem is the perception of the WiiU being vastly underpowered. Its nintendo's problem of Image mismangement

But they operate on their own timeframe ignoring all of that. Infact they'll screw over the medai any chance they get.

They dont like to talk;.

Nothing, next-gen gonna be in the f****ng clouds.

Nintendo 2018

English is not my native language.

If they keep chasing the same market, I don't imagine it will do much better than the WiiU. They really need to start making moves at the markets MS and Sony have taken from them over the past 10 years.

Third parties dont care about the systems power. They care about their positioning and the effort.

And Nintendo's always had a stigma. That;s all it is.

NIntendo just needs to move away from third parties altogether especially regarding a system when they put things out for the first few years on the market

Drain their funds ?

Even if the Wii U is an absolute disaster, I expect Nintendo to make more money out of it than Microsoft or Sony ever will from their respective businesses.

I expect the Nextendo to be either something like a really powerfull and feature-rich tablet, or it won't exist at all. I think the next Nintendo handheld will be a very capable dx11 tier device, which can run many games with fantastic graphics and stream them to a tv. No need for an old school console.

NIntendo's not concerned about brand recognition

Looking at their present consoles i think we can assume they have realized the importance of brand recognition (both the 3DS and WiiU are following the same brand as their successor).

The PS4/X1's launch line ups weren't that much better than the WiiU's, but they sold so much purely on being "next PlayStation and Xbox". The WiiU would likely have found a similar source of success had the Wii no been dead by the time it arrived.
