Let's wait and see how Wii U does first.

They announced and released the Wii U to early, maybe release Wii X at the same time as the PS5 and XBoxMinus720. This would give more time to improve it and have a real race to the champs.

The Wii U was announced/released prematurely deliberately with the intent of getting a headstart on the competiton, Nintendo just did nothing with it.

Guys, guys

In order to start a proper discussion about this, we must understand what defines a console as "successful"

There´s just too much subjective concepts about what is a "successful" product here. We need something objective. A product doesn´t need to be the best seller of the industry to be successful, it just need to meet their customers expectations (not all customers expectations) and give the company the profits it needs (not the profits it wants, know the difference)

That said, we still don´t know what Nintendo is working on for its next console. Or how financially their consoles are currently going. Are they still losing money on WiiU, or not? we can´t say for sure. Will it be successful at the end of its commercial run? We still can´t say for sure.

They lost many gamers ,, no third parties will ever come, first party games not as sought after as in the past, current leaders are trying to destroy the company, wii u will drain their funds giving them one last go as a console maker.

So what, if anything, can they realistically do?

Other than perhaps the bolded (which is only because Nintendo has thus far decided to regress back to their inferior, more niche, Gamecube stlye games), none of your claims have any merit.

Nintendo can't be successful. Even when they are.

The Wii was apparently a failure to many, despite the phenomenon it was.

The only way for Nintendo to actually 'succeed' is to be doomed, go third party, and rake in mega cash for the first few years by spamming their franchises onto every possible platform. Then when they eventually go under from following the advice of 'expert video game analysts' of the past 20 years, we can all look back at how successful their last few years were.

Combine the home console with the handheld so the handheld is just an extension of the console, doubling up as a controller a la the gamepad. No separate software development. Both come in the dame box (extra handhelds only purchasable via the home console nintendo dhop and esch handheld having to link with the home console regularly).

This.

It would prevent software droughts, since Nintendo doesn't have the resources to support two systems without gaps.  It think it would be a success.  I certainly would love to have the ability to take Wii U games on the go instead of just a 30 foot or so range.

by not ignoring third party developers for the almost 100%.

Yeah, they have to kiss up big time to third party developers.  Sometimes, they can carry a system to huge success pretty much by themselves (Wii) but more often, they can't (Wii U, N64, Gamecube).

They will appoint their new ceo as Sasha Grey.

Firstly, they have the 3DS to fall back on in worst case. They will still be profitable this gen overall.

Plus, I don't think the Wii U is doing as bad as people want to make it out to be. It is literally the console with no big games. It has 3 that I'd consider non-niche. 2 Mario's & a Zelda remake.

Once more games release and prices are dropped, Wii U should at least pass GC numbers. The system should make some profit by the end based off Nintendo games.

I also expect an add-on similar to the Balance Board from the Wii. Vitality Sensor? Haptic tech in the GP? A free dog with every purchase? Nobody knows but I'd bet they have something that will be revealed soon.

Mario Kart and Donkey Kong is enough to get more Hardware sells till spring. Because both are excellent games. We can see it on Mario 3D World. With this one game Wii U sells are 3600 % (x36) JP

Zelda - Breath of the Wild for Nintendo Switch.... Incredable!!!
