Hey people. I'm not including the current one because it barley began.  I like all generations third-seventh. It just seemed like the first two were quite or over saturated. Third-Seventh is really where it shines but i'm going to include the first two just in case. So which one is the best? Here's the consoles below for each generation. and below i'm only going to include the major competitors.

First- I don't know almost any other than the Odessey

Second- Again I don't know much but I know there was Atari

Third-  Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Master System, and Atari 7800

Fourth- Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis

Fifth- PlayStation, N64, and Sega Saturn

Sixth- PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, and Sega Dreamcast

Seventh- Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360

My ranking:
1. 6th/5th
2.6th/5th (I can't decide)
3.4th
4. 7th
5. 3rd
6. 2nd
7. 1st

They're all great generations though, except for maybe the first, but even that had Pong, so it's not really bad. The 2nd is where gaming really took off.

That's tough. Honestly, I'd put the 7th at the top had it not been for a serious lack of epic RPGs from Japan. The PS2 era had a TON of games but, honestly, a lot of them weren't all that good. It lacked the pop of the 5th and the high quality of the 7th. All three are very close, though, in my opinion.

The PS1 just had so many epic games, however, that I have to put it at the top.

1. 5th
2. 7th
3. 6th
4. 3rd
5. 2nd

2nd and 3rd are close for me, as the Atari was an absolute blast to play. It just had too much garbage, though, which made finding great games difficult. It's biggest flaw was that it only did a few types of games well. The NES brought a ton more variety, including my first RPG (Final Fantasy).

PS1 n64 gen especially if you count pc releases at the time like Fallout 2 and Age Of Empires 2.

That Gen really brought gaming to life and made it 'cool' for everyone.

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

Fourth.
The best console of all time in the SNES, and a worthy adversary in the Megadrive.

PS2, GameCube, and Xbox had some of the greatest masterpieces in gaming history.

If it was to come down between the PSX, PS2, or PS3, it'd be easy, the PSX, but combining all consoles in a generation, the sixth gen wins with the inclusion of games from the Gamecube, Dreamcast, and Xbox.

Forth.

Last generation where two PURE GAMING companies went toe to toe.

5th > 7th > 4th > 6th > 3rd > 1st & 2nd

I'm torn between the 4th and 7th generations. The 4th was definately a Golden Age ahead of the 2nd and 3rd gens, but the 5th gen aged fairly poorly all things considered and the 6th was a bit dull for my inner Nintendo fan. The 7th brought the most diversity of platforms, genres, and scale yet, even with so many games being similar, but I'm not sure if it fulfilled its promise the same way the Genesis, SNES, and Game Boy fulfilled theirs'.

Love and tolerate.
