Sony always promises long life cycle and great support with new IP's and contect, so they trust sony that they will have great gaming from studios like Naughty dong, Santa monica, Media molecules, Quantic Dream, Japan, studio, Sony London studio etc., and alos the hardware is great. People buy Playstation for five years not just playing for sometime in holidays and forget it.

You know, if I say I bought my Wii U at launch for a long life cycle, waiting for great games  from studios like Retro Studios, Monolith Soft, Game Freak, HAL Laboratory, Intelligent Systems etc., I would be called  a "sheep", because you know: "Never buy a console at launch"... I know it's not related to this argument, but it's really interesting to me.

This is not the same thing at all, it would be logic to wait when it comes to Wii U since nintendo consoles have a shorter life cycle, especially when the sales are bad, then, the price will surely drop again.

It's the same thing. Nintendo always support their consoles  4-5 years, Sony supports their consoles for a much longer time, but they both sell a product, one having a shorter life cycle and bad sales.

So, it's not the same thing.

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Wii`s success was largely unexpected while PS4`s isn`t.
Sony anticipated the demand and prepared itself for it, Nintendo didn`t - for a long time.

Still not convinced that the PS4 can do as well as the wii though, that product was definately a magnet... just dragged everyone in. I had never purchased a nintendo product until the Wii, and I got it day 1. Though I think the Ps4 is riding the wave of such a long cycle this time, so I think it will do well, but would expect sales to start going below the wii easily by april. Though I expect the Ps4 to have much longer legs (and support) than the wii and will pass 100m.

I think the biggest reason for both PS4 and XB1 record sales is, as you said: riding on the backs of a very lengthy cycle.
Will it do Wii numbers? At first, no. Will it surpass it? It has that potential. The question is how far this new generation will last. Honestly i don`t see it lasting more than 5 years (as to remain competitive with other gaming devices).
So, in that case, PS4 will fight to reach those numbers.
More, MS won`t just sit and let PS4 have it`s way. And Wii U will surely gain momentum in 2014 and keep it until the end of the generation.

In the days of PS1 and PS2, Sony basically had no serious competition except for the N64 and even then, it wasn`t a big competitor. Sony doesn`t have that mindshare it used to have.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

NNID: Slarvax - Steam: Slarvax - Friend Code:  SW 7885-0552-5988

It will plummet like the Wii U.

PS4 doesn't have the same mania that wii had. This will calm down soon, and it may even slow down a lot. PS4 is gonna have to prove itself with must have games before we see any kind of sustained huge sales. This will probably happen eventually and sales will pick up a lot late next year or the year after.

Based on what? It's selling out instantly everywhere AND has sold more than Wii did. Did you miss the mania around the launch in Europe?

Sales don't need to pick up. They're already epically high.

I hope you guys get paid to be Sony's PR reps and aren't just doing this for free.

What the hell are you talking about?

I thought it was clear.  You and pezus are so pro-Sony and you make outlandish predictions in favor of Sony ("PS4 is totally the next PS2 based on about one month's sales, heck it may sell one BILLION units!") that I think Sony should pay you to post.

And apparently, if it's brought up, you don't get it and you get vulgar about it.  No need to swear!

The problem lies not with me, it lies with you thinking its crazy for PS4 to be the next PS2 of its generation, not saying its gonna sell 150 million units, just be the dominant console. There is nothing outlandish about that prediction. Cut with the hyperbole, no one is claiming its gonna sell a billion consoles, we arent on anybody's payroll.

pezus/turkish jobless confirmed. Using grandma's cough syrup fund to get PS4s.

I think it'll slow down with the pace of the Wii in a few months - the Wii's xmas sales were probably supply constrained to that number (albeit so are PS4's I guess). But PS4 got more units out in that space of time, as Sony could pump them out faster I guess. Ps4 will continue to sell strong but Wii sales I doubt, mainly because I think the Xbox One is a very worthy competitor who will steal enough marketshare to prevent that.

HOWEVER. I do think the Ps4 is going to last much, much longer then the Wii did. I mean the Ps3 is still pushing good numbers 7 years on while the Wii has begun to vanish, I don't expect the same fate for the PS4. Predicting things in 2021 (happy nye!) probably isn't the wisest move though lol.

As many repeat every time WiiU outsells something it is because of supply, Wii sold out too quickly and wasn't restocked while PS4 is available for purchase, the numbers do seem way off though for some reason

bet with ash3336 he wins if Super Mario 3D World sells less than Mario Sunshine during the first three years, I win if 3D World outsells Sunshine's first 3 years. Loser get sig controlled for 3 months (punishment might change)

Do you doubt the WiiU? Do you believe that it won't match the GC?

Then come and accept this bet

The PS4 will not have the same momentum as the Wii had, but it will have far better legs. I see no reason why it should not outsell the Wii in the longrun

I agree with this possibility, look at the PS3 for goodness sake.  BUT, I think the defining factor will be technology, and where we are at in 5 years (meaning when does the PS5 generation release).  I don't think the world wants another gen this long.  But rather, shorter generations with cheaper consoles entry prices (400 or less)

True, but 5 years/generation is given. 4 is not viable no matter how we look at it. Neither for the hardware manufacturer or 3rd party developers.

In 5 years I could see the PS4 selling 80-90 million units and maybe 15-20 more during the 9-th generation.

lol

$599,99 ps3 vs 249,99 wii

lets wait and see

I think you misunderstood me.  I was saying the the PS4 WILL have good legs, LIKE THE PS3 which came on strong and is STILL going strong.   As for the entry price of the PS3, it is WHY it had a slow start, also to my point of how people want their consoles cheaper to start.  So I think you misunderstood my post.
