Such a horrible comparison. Why don't we just lump TV and movies into this because it competes for time, money and entertainment.

Ah, but they do. Only on forums such as this they sometimes don't when it's closemindedly convenient, but in reality they do, very much.

You can claim they're not in competition until you're blue in the face - they compete on the only front that matters in the end: for the money and time consumers are willing to spend on such entertainment, and that's a simple truth and fact, whether anyone likes it or not. There's just no way around it. Tablets and smartphones compete with handhelds and consoles for that matter, too, and are destroying all of them in sales.

Especially if you say that handhelds and home consoles are both competing for the time and money of consumers it is not a fair comparison.

Fact 1: Consumers have significantly more time to spend on handhelds

Fact 2: They don't have to spend as much money on handhelds

That makes them by design a significantly better deal than consoles. So much that they're not in a feasible realm for comparison. Also they have for the most part a different target audience.

It's like comparing smartphones to desktop PCs.

Since when did people start considering handhelds on equal ground for competing in something called THE CONSOLE WAR cause if the 3ds is competing head to head with the 3 actual consoles its over, and we can just say its the winner based on current numbers. Now see how silly that sounds consoles are consoles handhelds are handhelds congrats on the 3ds doing what its doing, but in terms of this site the only thing the 3ds is up against is the psp/psv, and the ds.

Sure, we all know that 3DS will have higher numbers but comparisons are about home consoles, not $129 handhelds. 3DS isn't in the title of the thread, nor is it in the comparison of the consoles shown.

It has the games and should be compared to consoles. Heck a few sites actually handed game of the year awards to the 3DS. (Which considering how game of the year is most generally won by a console says a lot.) But seriously that is like me asking why is it when these numbers show up Sony fans all of a sudden ignore Vita sells numbers while they rubbed it in their face (Afew at least did) when Vita was outselling the Wii U.

Pikmen 3= Little Bump to nothing. (Got Little Bump)

Wind Waker HD= Won't sell anything (The explosion happened here and at one time 4 Wii U games was in the Amazon top 100)

Super Mario 3D World= Won't help at all looks cheap. (Currently the most sought after Wii U game and continuing the Wii U increase.)

I guess those "rumors" of the PS4 outselling Xbone by a 2:1 margin were correct, at least for that week. And Japan hasn't even come yet! EU is voting with their wallets in big favor of the StationThatPlays!

People here are saying that there is no sense in comparing 3DS sales to PS4 sales, since they do not share the same market. Well, that is true, but there is still cause for the comparison. Why? Well Nintendo gets a LOT of revenue from the 3DS, and they can then channel that to the Wii U. The popularity of the 3DS gets them more consumers for the Wii U. They are all related. Saying they are not is ridiculous and frankly is something I expect from fanboys.
And before you say that Sony and MS can do the same with their tablets, laptops etc. it is not the same, Sony and MS gaming branch are separate from other parts of the company. If they are making a loss then they might decide to do without the gaming branch.
