I disagree with the "go for the hardcore not the casual gamers" depending on what he means by it. Consoles before the Wii sort of did that and they did not do well. I know it's very hard to replicate the success of the Wii, but they don't need Wii levels of success. They should just make a cheap system, that's sold at a profit, geared towards kids and families while also trying to satisfy veteran Nintendo fans.

LOL did not do well? like the PS1 and 2 both selling better than Wii?

PS1 and PS2 did not go exclusively for the hardcore crowd, they both had casual appeal.

how so? I could see how PS2 might have with the whole cheap DVD but that only lasted a little while. How did PS1 aim at casuals? the library was anything but

PS1 had plenty of games like Tony Hawk, Tekken, and Crash Bandicoot that casuals could easily pick and play at parties with a bunch of mates and some beers. I know, I was there. ;)

you and i have a very different defintion of casual. im talking Just Dance, Wii Sports stuff like none the few games that were on PS1 and 2 played no factor. Those games you listed were more core.

Casual to me is more a play style; the ability for a game to be easily picked up and played by someone without much background in gaming, the kind of game played at parties by people who don't really game in their own time. Tekken, for example can be very core, but it can also be very casual, with a couple of guys who've never owned a console button mashing their way through a match.

Oh boy...he said something bad about the gamepad/touchscreen controller. Seriously he is right, there is no software using it's full capabilities, whichever they may be, not even Nintendo is making use of it. If you are not going to use it get rid of it and cut down the cost of the wii U simple as that.

What would be a way to use it to its full capabilities? Just about every game use the screen in one form or another. So I don't get where people keep saying they don't use the pad to its fullest. What is the fullest uses? If developers start doing that then everyone will start saying its forced. Just like people were saying of the waggling of the wii mote.

I wouldn't say they need to "change" it completely. First of all that would piss off a lot of people that invested in the Wii U with the gamepad, thinking the gamepad was going to be the standard.

What they MAY benefit from however is to shift focus again to the Wiimote, especially motion plus, and revert to using that controller as the default control scheme. The gamepad to me is a neat idea in some ways but strikes me more as an accessory, that should only be used for a select few genres/games, like RPGs, RTS, certain party game/mini game compliations, as well as online stuff like miiverse/netflix streaming/web browsing, etc.. I think Nintendo should try and knock it out of the park with a brand new IP, an epic game that takes full advantage of the wii motion plus, maybe something like a oldschool Zelda or Skyrim style action RPG with a lot of depth but also is accessible to the average gamer. Then when the game becomes a smash hit, you bundle it with a new cheaper console bundle for $250, and try a sort of "relaunch".

Critics are like Gym teachers...

Take from that what you will.

Things that need to die in 2016: Defeatist attitudes of Nintendo fans

What Nintendo need to do is utilize the game pad more to make a difference in the gaming experience. It's use in SM3DW seem to be thrown it as an afterthought, like "let's think up a way to use it". ZombiU used it well enough but I expected new ideas from Nintendo.

Anyhow dropping the gamepad now after people are finally beginning to figure out it is not an addon but an integral part of the wii u console is a sure fire way to promote even more confusion.

you can say that about just any game. you wont win button mashing in Tekken, unless the opponent himself sucks bad example IMHO. where as say Just Dance you dont even have to actually dance to win.

Just Dance isn't a casual game, it's a party game.

Casual games are specifically games that have short play sessions of usually 1-5 minutes and long term consequences: Brain Age, Candy Crush Saga, and Clash of Clans are a few good examples.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Yeah ditching the Wii Mote was stupid. There is not much they can do now though.

they should start selling wiiu with the pro controller not the gametap. and bundle the tab with 10 retrogames so its usefull for people even if they dont like the new gametab dependend games. nintendo has so many sve, childfriendly retrogames, they have to market the tab as a save device where the little brother can play with while the oler kids are playing on the tv. and get some crossplattform action with the old ports, lvl u beat at supermario world open bonus lvl in supermario 3d world, etc.
