It's free until 10AM PST 26/12/2013

I don't think you have to actually install/download it to keep it forever.  I think all you need to do is go to the store page, click "Install game" and then it will take you to a successful purchase page and the game should now be in your library which should be enough to keep it.

 

But someone please correct me if that's wrong

Do I own the game free of charge the moment the downloading process begins? I'm downloading it right now, but it is extremely slow. (50% complete)

Must be a lot of people downloading.

If it has appeared in your library list, then you have it regardless of you download it or not.

Whats your usual download rate?

It could be the amount of people downloading the game lol. Its a fairly popular game so getting it for free will attract a lot of new players and those who didnt have the game (for whatever reason XD).

 

Anyways, you will enjoy it! Its my 2nd most played game on Steam (and eventually will become my most played!)

I plan to play a few sessions in the coming week since I'll be more free :P.

For the first 20%, it was 2 mbs, which is good. Then it dropped like a rock. Did the speed test, and nothing wrong on my my end. The server must be swamped.

Enjoyed the first one, but never got around to playing l4d2. I'm sure I'll have a blast.
