Forums - Gaming Discussion - the 1080p people...

Like pretty much everybody else, I can appreciate the jump from 720p to 1080p. 1080p obcviously being better. I just don't see as big of a jump from upscaled to 1080p vs native 1080p. I've purchased three different HDTVs (ending with an LED early last year) since 2007 in search of the perfect picture and I tweak my console settings and TV settings until I think I have the best possible pic--even when I don't know what some of the settings mean!

In the end, the difference just isn't that prominant to my old man eyes. I do only play on 42 inch screens, though. Maybe the difference is better on bigger TVs. I don't know.

My TV is 720p, my monitor is 720p and my notebook has a 720p resolution screen. I'd prefer if everything was 720p so I wouldn't have any scaling artifacts on my images LOL

I also find the world more enjoyable with glasses on. I can still function perfectly fine without them and it's the exact same world, it just looks better with glasses on.

I don't mind playing on lower res, I played ps1 on a 72" screen with a CRT projector. Now that were some blurry pixels. FF7 was still awesome, same as Wipeout 2097.
Yet being able to clearly see things in the distance has its advantages and brings a extra level of immersion. It depends on the game as well. Flower on ps4 blew me away again while the Trine 2 demo looked pretty much as I remembered it.

For 3D games and especially racing 1080p is definitely a big step up.

I am throwing so many tomatos at you... I am sick of console blurriness

Quite honestly, I don't notice much of a difference between the 720p and 1080p. Most people don't even notice a difference unless you see both resolutions side by side.

I care more about frame rates. I'm disappointed we aren't seeing more games achieving 60 fps or maintaining it.

Let me guess ... You don't have a PS4.

The PS5 Exists.

I admit don't have a PS4....but I'm willing to bet my favorite testicle that many of the people championing 1080p don't either. Hell, one guy on youtube was going on and on about 1080p and he had a TV smaller than my dick.

I may get both in March--if there's something I want to play. My job gives out huge bonus checks around that time and I need something to waste it on. No idea where I'd sit 'em though. My game room is pretty full right now and I don't want to move any of my consoles from their current configuration,

So you prefer to stay in the PS360 era instead to move for a new one.

720p is so dated.

It won't be very long until you see PS4 games go the 720p route and sub hd for the X1. Both systems are fairly weak.

Cause its a damn standard and we expected this of the "NextGen"
Especially if you pay more you should expect at least the expected > standard < for this Gen.
There is no "Yeeeeah but you can upscale it and if you are blind you can't even see the differences" derp derp PR Talk.
Native1080p should be standard and why do some care so much?Fear or parity contracts which will hold some others back ;)

If some are happy to play games in 720p while others play the same game in MUCH higher Quality with tons of more effects and payed less for the system to play it on then yeah...
I will sell you gladly my backup PC from 2002 for 1500$?You could get a PC for 1000$ which will last you the next 7 years with Max quality but hey we don't care about quality right?Just transfer the money over to my account please. You won't notice the differences to a PC pumping out resolution above 1080p.Promised!
480p or 4k?Who cares!There is a 4 in it!

It depends on how big your screen is and how close you are to it. With bigger TVs for cheap these days, more people are able to afford HDTVs at 500USD for 50 inch TVs at 1080p native resolution, and if you sit close enough, there is a difference from 720p to 1080p, but if you sit further away, doesn't make a difference at all. I sit very close to my 40 inch HDTV since it's pretty much what I use for my normal computing(I'm maybe only 1.5 meter away tops.) So 1080p makes quiet a big difference compared to 720p.

Mario Kart at 1080p 60fps with that amazing nintendo iq would be god tier.

Yeah, I didn't really read the thread.
