Which is better? N64 or GameCube?

N64 252 60.72%

GameCube 163 39.28%

Total:415

Gamecube is not only better, it is the best Nintendo system, its ironic that it sold the least.
Gamecube has the best Metroid, best Zelda(WW+TP), best Mario Kart, best Animal Crossing, best F-Zero, best Smash Bros, best Mario Strikers, a really good 3D Mario game, Resident Evil 4, Eternal Darkness

I love GCN!!!! But N64 had some bad *** games as well! Your list i agree with aside from zlda cuz 1. i count TP as a wii title(even though your right) and 2. OoT+ALttP are better LoZ even though Windwaker is underrated out of the LoZ!

Are you getting LoZ WWHD next year as well? MK8 alone will keep the dust off of a wiiu for at least a year alone

N64 by far.

Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time were simply revolutionary back in 1996 and 1998.

Also, it was the period when we had Rare at their best..Goldeneye 007, Banjo Kazooie, Blast Corps, Jet Force Gemini, Perfect Dark, etc..

Imo, the N64 is the much superior console when it comes to the most important aspect, games.

N64 = Best Nintendo system ever

GC = Worst Nintendo home console I've owned

Easy choice.

I agree with you. N64 had a fantastic library, California Speed, Cruisn' USA, Killer Instinct, SSB and so on. GameCube simply felt weak and without substance.

Well you know that TP is a Gamecube game, ported to WIi

I already have WWHD, just need a WiiU now lol

GC will win because of the age groups voting. Most people on the internet are in their early 20's. If you're in your early 20's, you were a child when Gamecube was doing it's thing and thus, was likely your first console.

But, for those of us who were actually young adults when OOT launched, the answer is obvious.

*raises eyebrow*

I'm in my early 20s, my first console was the Sega Mega Drive, never had a Gamecube during it's lifespan, had about 4 other systems before it launched and I'd probably still give the GC the nod. Your own criteria ironically describes the N64 more than anything given the grotesque amount of undue credit the system takes from uneducated Nintendo apologists.

Im 27, I had Megadrive before moving to PS1 but played Nintendo games at my friend who had a Snes and upgraded to N64.  The only thing that stands out on N64 for me is Mario 64, OoT and Rare games...

In gen 6 I bought a Gamecube before PS2 because it was 500 euros at launch while Gamecube was slowly moving to 99 euros.

Really love the GC lol, it has a lot of underappreciated titles

As previously mentioned, I had neither system during their active lifespans, but I still played both substantially.

If I were asked this question 5 years ago, I probably would've said the N64, but I realized that my neglect towards the Gamecube was due to it's respective competition (PS2, original Xbox, GBA) being flat out better at each of it's talking points in some form or another at the time, not necessarily in contrast to previous Nintendo systems.

And it then dawned on me how heavily the N64 relied on Rare's support, they basically 1-up'd each and every one of Nintendo's internal offerings with the exception of Zelda games, their slow but sure departure during the Gamecube era seemed to have Nintendo re-evaluate their 1st party studios/IPs, and improved tenfold by daring to be different.

I'm likely to take a lot of heat for saying this, but what can I say, the Gamecube feels more like a Nintendo system to me than the N64 did.

The Ninentdo 64 also had the best Real Time Strategy game of all time. Aka. StarCraft.

Another thing about Gamecube is that it is the only Nintendo console that didn't innovate the interface:

NES - added d-pad
SNES - shoulder buttons and diamond face button config.
N64 - analog stick
Wii - Motion controls
Wii U - Visual touchscreen interface

Each of the above consoles have been advancing controller interface in some way.

Gamecube just ripped off the PS2 controller and made it look and feel like a toy. It also came along with awkwardly positioned face buttons, springly and noisy trigger buttons, and the most unusable d-pad ever made. The controller with its tiny d-pad, giant trigger buttons, and big green button just screamed Made For Kids! I suppose it matched the design of the console itself, which was cube shaped and came with a handle so that children could carry it around like a lunchbox.

It is not surprising that Gamecube had a reputation as being the childrens' console.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
