Analog technology had been around for years man, hell, even the Sega Saturn 3D controller and N64 controller were released within two weeks of each other, are you seriously giving Nintendo credit for simply releasing theirs first? The NES D-Pad and SNES shoulder buttons on the other hand, may never have come to fruition without Nintendo. I already conceded that the Gamecube controller's talking points were makeshift flukes at best. But that isn't really any different concerning the N64 controller. |
No, I am giving the N64 the credit for its analog stick revolutionizing gaming and established it as an industry standard. The Sega Saturn controller didn't do that, it was an add-on peripheral that went both unknown and nowhere.
You can argue that about shoulder buttons and the d-pad, but the fact of the matter is that no one else did it. It was Nintendo that made those options the core of their console's vision when it came to interface.
With the Wii you could argue that the NES had motion controls first. The difference is those control methods were never made into any sort of a standard, and were not part of the core vision of the NES. It was the Wii that revolutionized the industry with them.
