Forums - Gaming Discussion - Microsoft's plan to destroy PlayStation (explained here)

Ever wonder why Microsoft captures exclusive rights to 3rd party games instead of creating 1st party games? I'll tell you why!!

If Microsoft creates a first party game for let's say, $20 million there is a CHANCE it can make its money back and sell systems. +1 Microsoft

BUT if Microsoft buys exlcuive rights to DLC for lets say Call of Duty (an already popular game), it's +1 for Microsoft and -1 for Sony. Making Xbox look twice as worthy than PlayStation. Also, Micrsoft causes a chain reaction, if one person buys Call of Duty for their system then others will buy Call of Duty on Xbox to play with their friend. The more friends that buy COD on Xbox the more xboxes Microsoft sells and more Money Microsoft makes. ++1 for Microsoft. Of course there are ways for Sony to counter this in different ways BUT it is more profitable to work with what you have than to create new games from scratch and hope they're good. Discuss

Edit: This is why Xbox is more popular in english speaking countries, these are the places with more internet playing i think

Or you could have amazing first party studios that are pretty much guaranteed to consistantly put out amazing games.  I'm pretty sure most AAA first party PS3 exclusives this gen made their money back and the ones that didn't like Twisted Metal and Sly 4 (I'm guessing) were because Sony didn't bother to market them and the loses were small, if any.

You guys obviously can't see the economics behind this or didn't read the post. Haven't you ever heard of the prisoner's dilemma? Not only are you supposed to do what works in your self interest but you supposed to worry about your competition. I put thought in my post but you guys can't understand it and post thoughtless replies!!

Wait, a strategy that the competition could just as easily practice? Easy win for MS for sure. Good thing the Xbox One sold more copies of Call of Duty. Keep up the good work.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Ya okay everyones wrong and your right lol.  You say there's a chance Microsoft won't make their money back for first party studios, but you don't realize is that Microsoft has to pay even more to get these third party exclusives, why do you think that 1 billion investment in video games was so high.  Not only do they have to pay for development of that game but they also have to pay for lost sales on the PS4.  Its way cheaper to make actual first party games.
