I am not basing Wii U's my estimation on Wii U's recent success in Japan as you premuse and probably hope so  also you are just presume/assume that Wiii U is bombing outside of Japan which is not correct and Wii U sells considerably better than GameCube in Japan as we compare the second year.

Gamecube had better 3rd party support yet it did not result in sales and Wii U sells well compared to Gamecube when we see the amount of 3rd party support that Gamecube has over Wii U. Wii U by now should have 5 million units in one year one and half months which is 1(4th of Gamecube sales and Gamecube achieved in 5-6 years in its life time 20 million units. When we look at Wii U and compare it to Gamecube, Wii U looks like an anomaly.

You have the point yet you are going too doom and gloom into consoles 1st year, look at PlayStation 3... It rose from the ashes in much harder enviroment so Wii U with its problems should easily overcome them. Once the software sales are very good for Nintendo on Wii U then Nintendo might bite the bullet again and drop price to 250$ which is a magical bundle, then you will see Wii U fly off the shelf as it did does at some retailers that did holiday price cut.

Expect that price drop next holiday...

the gamecube sold  6.68 million its first year, i don't see your point there and ps3 is like comparing apple to oranges, the ps3 is crushing the wiiu interms of monthly sales it actually had momentum, and launched in europe 5 months later, thats why its first year looks so bad, it was missing numbers from its best selling region.

Gamecube had a huge support from the start thus it had good sales while Wii U does not have that kind of support yet it sold very good when you compare it to Gamecube so if it had Gamecube like support then it would blow Gamecube out of the water and you can only expect better sales for Wii U next year as a lot of exclusives arrive. Just compare the library between Gamecube and Wii U in its first and second year... Wii U should be doing much worse than Gamecube and that is not happening, it can only get better. Wii U already hit the all time low inbetween Q2/Q3 and it can't get any worser.

Wii U does not have the same problem as the Gamecube to be "repulsive" to "gamers" by its look and other things...

Look at 3DS, it was considered dead and Nintendo turned it around so I don't see Nintendo failing to turn around Wii U, also when I mentioned PlayStation 3 I was talking about how much effort was needed to turn it around  for Sony while Wii U does not have nearly as close of issues/problems as PlayStation 3 thus it will be "far" easier for Nintendo to turn Wii U's fortunes around.

You keep underestimating, you keep underestimating... You probably did that with DS, Wii and 3DS... Learn! Learn for once!

All I will say is this: I am a huge Nintendo fan. I laughed at the PS3's horrid start, telling my friends that they would be out of gaming by 2009. In 2009, I purchased a PS3, and loved it. Due to this, I purchased a PS4 day one.

If a bad start to a system has you thinking the game is over, you're dead wrong.

the ps3 did 6.7mill in 2007 (not including launch numbers) the wii U might not even crack 3mill YTD this year if the ps3 was horrid the wii U is torrid because t<<<<< h, I do wish a comeback from the wii U tho it will make this gen more interesting

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

For arguments sake let's say it sells 5.5 million by the end of the year (Actual number will probably be just under) I think realistically it could sell 7 million units in 2014 putting the total at 12.5 million. I suppose if everything goes off wrong the worst case scenario would be around 9.5-10 million total and if everything goes better than expected we might see a total of 14.5-15 million. Although software sells hardware and 2014 has some awesome Wii U games it's hard to convince people to buy a Wii U when for $100 more you can get a PS4.

Worst case scenario is that it's down YoY, that's 8.5m or less.

Worst case scenario is that no Wii U's sell in 2014 ;). With Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros coming out there is no way that it will sell less than 4 million next year.

With 3D Mario, Zelda remake and price cut there is no way WiiU will sell under 5m in 2013. Heard that plenty times this year.

yup nintendo fans act like wiiu didn't have the games this year, a remake of zelda, 2 mainline mario games, AC4 and COD: ghosts, it has more system sellers this year then the next year when you consider the next AC4 and COD will not be coming out for the wiiu next year.

We don't know that, not that it means a jot for this year or last. They're not system sellers so how does 2014 have less than 2013???

2014 will probably (IMO) be better than 2013 sales, possibly by a good amount, but one should never just 'expect' it. Not after the year WiiU has had.

No offense eyeofcare but you're not much different from the same Nintendo apologists who through all of 2013 kept running the "Wii U sales will explode with Mario 3D World + Wind Waker HD + Wii Party + Wii Fit + Pikmin!!! Just wait and see!" line and constantly making wildly bloated predictions.

Those guys talked a big game and blew a lot of hot air then went running for the hills never to be seen again after that November 2013 NPD.

The fact is the Wii U right now is not another GameCube ... it's selling considerably worse in North America. It's more like the Dreamcast.

I don't buy the "it haz no games" excuse any more. It has several good games now, maybe the bounce shouldn't be astronomical, but surely we should be seeing a bigger bounce from a good 4 months of solid releases (Pikmin 3 to Zelda WWHD to Wii Party U to Wonderful 101 to Mario 3D World to Wii Sports Club and lots of decent multiplats and things like Just Dance 2014 and Skylanders and Sonic Lost World too). Not to mention a $50 price drop and more attractive bundles for the holidays and even a decent helping of marketing too (I saw a decent amount of Wii U commercials this November at least).

The needle should be moving *a lot* more right now than it is if this system was truly healthy.
