Forums - Website Topics - Regarding banning...

This isn't really a feedback, but like.. How does the banning work? Can a user be banned constantly and just come back every time? Isn't there like a line you have to draw at some point? (Say 4 bans within 2 months => Permanent ban?). Right now it's like so many users get banned but just head right back in and get banned again...

So yeah, how does the system work?

I've asked for there to be some sort of rule put in place with regards to users who repeatedly get banned over a short period of time. But mods didn't agree with that line of thinking.

Intel Core i7 3770K [3.5GHz]|MSI Big Bang Z77 Mpower|Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1866 2 x 4GB|MSI GeForce GTX 560 ti Twin Frozr 2|OCZ Vertex 4 128GB|Corsair HX750|Cooler Master CM 690II Advanced|

I would definitely think that certain behavior and consistent bannings would warrant a perma-ban, so it's confusing to me that they're not handed out more frequently. If someone is always a turd, they deserve to have their account shut down and their points stripped. But maybe the mods don't want to push anyone away permanently, even if they're crappy?

Generally we use the progressive banning scale. It goes from 1,3,5,7,14,20,30,45,60, perma. Generally, we don't allow for a user to get to the 60 days before permaban discussions have started. We then take a vote on if the user should be permabanned (this generally happens around the 30-45 day ban time frame, but if a user is new, it can be a lot sooner).

If a user has gone a while without a ban, we generally show more leniency towards that user and we'll either let them off with a warning or lower the progressive ban scale for them.

There are some exceptions to every rule of course (for instance, if a user goes a long time without a ban because they left the site and come back to start trouble, we'll continue onward with previous sentencing, or if the user continues to post borderline comments then makes a major slip up.)

As for if a ban seems like it's not growing in length, sometimes it's because the user is doing something other than the initial thing they were banned for. Users can be banned for Spamming, Alt IDs, Flaming, Trolling, Sig Length or Other...which would encompass things like posting porn or links to warez.

We'll also show leniency sometimes to heated arguments where we give users 1-3 days to cool off if they are starting to get too personal with their quips.

Ah cool, thanks for the explanation.

Ah. I also apologize for using the word generally too many times in my post.

Did that help clear it up for you?

Yeah sure. Perhaps you should consider being a taaaad more strict with the days being increased though. Make people who return from a ban really be mindful and not just feel that they'll be gone for another 1-5 days.

By the way, I demand more rights for banned users !!!

Let us write PMs for example or just log in to see why we were banned before the ban expires. A banned user should not be allowed to post in the forums (obviously), but let them write a private message would not be that bad.

If the person behaves ban-worthy in these PMs, you should take his right to use this away as well.
That would be kind of cool.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I wish there was a way to do that but it's out of the mods control. We cannot stop you from creating an account to send me a message or send me an email (jojo.bo@gmail.com).

@ClassicGamingWizzz, I really appreciate your post. I've been having a rough day so that actually cheered me up. :D

I actually paid ClassicGamingWizzz to write that. It was totally worth it though,  'cause I feel great as well!

(Thanks CGW! :))

Seems iffy to me. I've seen somebody go on a thread and troll/flame saying "console suckas" and get away with it.
