Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why I think the next Paper Mario won't be like Sticker Star ( hopefully)

In this thread I will name two yet very strong reasons why I think the next Paper Mario  will most likely NOT going to be like Sticker Star and instead be like TTYD or SPM. Let's go..

#1- Fans/ reception-  Both the fans and the critics apparently didn't like Sticker Star as much as the older games.. For example, Sticker Star has a metacritic score of 75, while the " horrible" Super Paper Mario has a metacritic score of 85.. That's a huge  drop of 10 points.

Also, I've seen WAY more people pissed about Sticker Star than I did with Super Paper Mario... Specially when it was revealed that Miyamoto suggested that Sticker Star didn't need a story and stuff like that..... Also, according to this thread: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=173473 --Even  the VGChartz community is not that fond of Sticker Star.

#2- Miyamoto- The reason SS turned out the way it  did is because Miyamoto suggested  that SS didn't   need a story or new characters.. I believe it's both Miyamoto's fault and IS's fault. Sure, Miyamoto suggested all that crap, but why did IS accept? They weren't forced to water down the battle system... They weren't forced to remove the story... They weren't forced to not use new characters.... . Yet they accepted all that shit.. It's mostly THEIR fault if you think about it.

If you  look even further into the situation, why wasn't Mario & Luigi Dream Team affected by this? Why would Miyamoto go only after Paper Mario Sticker Star? Maybe Miyamoto  did suggest that Dream Team didn't need new characters and  stuff like that, but AlphaDream actually had a  pair of fucking balls and said NO to all the stupid shit Miyamoto  suggested.

Last thing regarding this subject.. Miyamoto said a while back that he won't focus as much  on   franchises like Mario Kart, Zelda, etc... Who knows? Maybe he means that he won't focus as much on franchises like Paper Mario as well? That's a possibility.. Besides, he seems to be busy with his new IP for the Wii U, so it's better for him not to focus on  franchises like Paper Mario so that his new IP will be great.

What do you think? Do you think Paper Mario Wii U will be like Sticker Star or not? Here it's an article that explains in detail some of the things I said: http://nintendo3dsdaily.com/nintendoarticles/is-paper-mario-sticker-star-not-all-miyamotos-fault/

I personally think of Paper Mario as IS's way of playing around with the RPG formula. Having experimented with the Sticker option in Sticker Star, they'll likely go back to a more successful formula that sold better on the GameCube and Wii.

That said, I'm not sure if Sticker Star 2 is something that should be feared. Bear in mind that it was essentially a prototype for a new kind of RPG, and also bear in mind that Thousand Year Door is considered a big step above the original Paper Mario. If Sticker Star 2 were to come out for the Wii U or whatever, I suspect it would be all about refining an original and worthy idea. The resulting game would likely have a better story, more content, and better balancing than the original.

Love and tolerate.

My main gripe with SS was the lack of  a story and new characters.. Even if Sticker Star 2 would keep the same battle system, I would kinda be Ok with it as long as the script is great, there are new, fresh characters and the story is unique.

Nintendo doesn't listen to fans or Metacritic. If they do, it's incredibly selective and anything that contradicts Miyamoto's wishes is thrown out.

I remember that interview, but I really didn't get the impression that he was that active in the game's creation...
I think Sticker Star works for a handheld game...
My gripe isn't with the story; it's with the lack of incentive to engage in fights...

Have a nice day...

Personally, I'd really, REALLY like to see a Super Paper Mario 2 on Wii U. I really loved that game. I like the regular rpg PM games, but SPM was perfect to me, it had the rpg elements, but it combined it with classic Mario platforming, AND it had the charming humor and all that intact. It was a great, underrated game, and I'd love to see another.

I suspect that the main thing that will make nintendo change tack is a good kick in the wallet. Using the graph tools Sticker Star is tracking substantially behind SPM

SS is currently sitting at 1.7m, SPM after the same number of weeks was at about 2.35m

Besides, I think lifetime it will do slightly better than TTYD, but nothing more.

Sounds near enough, I'd place it perhaps a little higher. TYDD finished up at 2.25m, I think it will do better than that, perhaps 2.6-2.7m. That would still be a substantial drop on SPM at 3.61m

I hope it goes back to TTYD style for the next one. I didn't even buy Sticker Star after seeing gameplay videos.

Definitely one of the few instances Nintendo messed up when it came to their actual games.
