Sony Fanboys - "Yes", but they still end up buying the Eye to get the same experience and show M$ fans their console can do everything Xbone can.

M$ Fanboys - "No". It's an import part of the UI that the Xbox One was built around. It's a low level AI that shouldn't be dismissed. Once you experience will never want to go back. Shouting at the TV is OK

I think the above examples miss the point.

On the Sony side, it doesn't matter if the PS4 camera provides a similar experience, and if some desire this. The Kinect remains a fad, one the PS camera failed to duplicate in terms of the excitement levels the Kinect originally engendered. So, the fact the Kinect was a fad is not impacted by the popularity, or not, of the PS camera, and is not impacted if individuals claiming the Kinect was a fad want the camera or not.

On the Microsoft side, it doesn't matter how important the Kinect-based functions may be to the One experience, that doesn't change the fact the Kinect once drew extraordinary excitement, and now no longer does. It was a fad that died. Now the Kinect is just a part of the Xbox fabric, one that we are all stuck with, for good or ill, depending upon your point-of-view. The One is selling well now, but few would argue it's because of the Kinect -- that fad for that device has ended -- it's selling well for a variety of other reasons.

The Xbox One just launched and every one of them comes with the Kinect, which MS built the entire experience around.

LOL @ fad.

You know, I know and all the Xbox fans in here know exactly why you came here and made the thread.

It's a fad and it's a burden to the Xbox One.

After 4 weeks, I actually realised yesterday I no longer navigate menus on consoles with controller at all anymore. I no longer sign in with controller anymore. I no longer use controllers for uch anything other than playing a game.

How much quicker is it compared to navigating the same dashbord with an analogue stick and buttons ?

Well the wierd thing is, I dont really see the dash to much. For example if Im on the Internet Explorer I just say Xbox go to My games and apps. And it goes their. Instead of having to go home to the dash, navigate to my games and apps with the sticks or shoulder buttons etc etc. It basically cuts out alot.

Intuitive it definately is. Id miss it now if it wasnt there. It would feel dated without it.

If my daughter wants to play Peggle 2, I just give her the controller and it signs her in automatically. Its just all so easy.

Remember the original Kinect was in the Guinness Book of records for fastest selling device (or something like that) and some Kinect games also broke sales records like Kinect Adventures selling over 20million copy's. Kinect 2.0 is even better. Remember the XB1 is selling better then the 360 did at the same time so obviously there are a lot of people out there that don't mind Kinect, like myself, it offers something different to me since I game 90% on my PC.

for gaming,. certainly.

  • several games announced for kinect (like ryse) dropped kinect from their game.
  • most any game that announced kinect support is limited to voice commands that are also supported on ps3/4 via microphone/headset support.
  • the games that did use kinect's core camera features sucked
  • the number 1 complaint about xbone is the bundled kinect driving up the cost without adding any value for gamers.

ps4 did it right.   their camera is sold seperatly and cost half the price.  it allows visual login, it allows controller tracking, it allows video chat, it allows voice inputs, it does all that extra shit selnor will go on and on and on about as being so ground breakingly innovative that no one cares about.

The thing is currently the X1 dash is slow and unorganised with things dissapearing or buried Deep, so right now voice commands are way faster, once they get the UI fixed so its more like the PS4 in terms of useability there wont be much in it.
