Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Are you mad that Smash Bros Wii U is not Smash Bros Melee 2.0?

Players be trippin', yo.

Honestly, even if the game were to become Melee 2, I'm sure they would have corrected unexpected moves such as wave-dashing. On the flip-side, I'm glad tripping is gone but I will miss L-cancelling, it made the game a lot cooler and more edgy because you could stay alive for a long time that way in levels like Temple.

Maybe they will reduce the amount of lag  air attacks have?

The 3DS and Wii U version will have different stages, so I don't think that's relevant...

Really? I tought it would be the same game... I hope they don't ruin the Wii U version, since it is much more suited for SSB (local multiplayer).

I'm not a super hardcore player so I don't really care. I loved Brawl as well.

No. I'm 34 years old and as such, I've had a LONG time to get use to and accept that the Nintendo of my youth (80's Nintendo) is dead and buried. They're going after a different crowd then they use to. They want to sell games to people who have no or little experience with games. Super Smash Bros. Melee was FAR too hardcore for the average person.

More accessible=more money.

Brawl was by far the best..I played that game with the game cube controller all day during the break at my cousins house.

As a more casual gamer, the more you can do so that my more dedicated friends can't just completely tear me to shreds without me really knowing what's going on, the better. I didn't notice a difference in speed, and I don't get into those weird little mechanics. It all seems so cheap to me. I want to practice with a character and learn how to use them well, not spend countless hours learning how to do all this weirdo move-cancelling junk that makes me completely unbeatable to anyone who doesn't get into that. Then you can no longer just sit down and play with friends.

To be honest, I think  one should master things like wavedashing only if they want to get into the competitive scene of  Melee.

But the simle fact that it exists splits the player base.  One of the only people that I usually get a chance to play with is all into that stuff, so there's just no point in playing with him because I'll barely land a single hit the whole time.  If you're lucky enough to have other freinds who play casually then that's great, but otherwise if you're not willing to learn the stuff then you'll never even have fun.

It's sort of like when I tried to play Marko Kart DS online.  Every single other player would just slide boost ahead of me.  Every game, every time, they just shot ahead and left me with no chance.  I didn't want to just slide boost the whole time, so I had to quit.  And I imagine it would probably be like that if I tried to play Brawl online too.

Yeah, the 3DS version's stages will be based on handheld games, like Nintendogs, Mario 3D Land, Zelda Spirit Tracks and so on. They'll probably have a few stages that will be the same between the two versions I'm guessing though.

Makes sense to have those differences really, because it would be unwise to release what's basically the same game on both Wii U and 3DS; they'd only cannibalize each other's sales.

It will be possible to play online with a Wii U against someone on 3DS version?

I have absolutely no idea, as they haven't given any info on that; it would be awesome, but somehow I doubt it.

I'm happy as long as I still have my Melee copy. And, though I use them, Melee would still be awesome even without wavedashing and L-cancelling.

As long as combos are present in Super Smash Bros. 4, the game should be great.
