Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii U vs PS4 vs XOne - First Weeks

Sony is really rocking in Europe.

It will be interesting to see how the United States turns out this year. I expect sony to gain an early lead once they finally sort out their supply issues, but I think the xbone has a much stronger announced 2014 lineup for the American audience. It's just the question of whether people thinking the extra $100 is worth that lineup.

Europe sales are depressingly one sided though. Makes the charts and sales information boring imo. Xbox desperately needs a competitive price there and sony would need to do something mindblowingly stupid for the other consoles to even come close in sales.

I called a 45/55 percent split at most in North America between the XO and PS4 months ago and I'm sticking with that. It's going to be close. Europe, the PS4 should win by a comfortable margin. Japan, the PS4 will win out over the Wii U once the third-party titles start rolling out. Japan is extremely trend oriented, though, so a big hit by Nintendo or a partner could possibly make it a close race or even give Nintendo the edge.

The fight for third-party exclusives in Japan is going to be fierce. I don't really understand why but many of the big Japanese publishers like to release on only one console. Nintendo scoring a big franchise could be key. However, the PS4 should retain many of their exclusives from the PS3 generation, so they should do well regardless.

Sony have a firce fight for third parties.... with nintendo... on a console, un no.

Yes Japan is a trend oriented nation, in case you have not noticed PS4 is a world wide trend.  Japan is gonna eat it up.

Can someone make a comparaison between ps2 and ps4 i had the feeling that ps4 will sell nearly as ps2

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

New week, updated charts. Now I'll wait for the japanese release to update these charts. They already show us the "slowdown" of each console. Wii U's is quite severe, whereas PS4 and Xone promise to keep an interesting (but not amazing) rate. PS4's supply issues seem to be gone. USA appears to keep the close battle between PS4 and Xone. The former has sold a little bit more in total even for the same number of weeks, but the latter is selling more in each of the last 3 weeks.

Way too early to tell what happens anywhere really. PS4 is still sold out everywhere so at least wait until all consoles are in stock to see what demand right now is.

Unfortunately, VGC doesn't have weekly data for PS2 (as far as I know), so I cannot make that comparison.

I believe PS4 can do similar or even better than PS2 in the short-term. In the long-term it's unlikely, since it has significant competition (coming from Xone) while PS2 was a sole queen. Furthermore, the whole market is shrinking, so every one's slice will be smaller.
