this thread makes me think some people aren't living in reality but when the enter a games store it's a Microsofted themed episode of the walking dead... You know you can say no thanks to a store clerk if he offers you help with your shopping right? Loads of stores themselves do just hire people to direct customers to the good Christmas presents this year, Nothing to do with Microsoft.

For me, saying "No, I'm good" wasn't an option.  Maybe the lady was a new employee or something and lacked people skills.  I know her manager was looking at her because I know him from past experience and he was like ten feet behind us.  Maybe she was under pressure.  She pushed Xbox One at me like it was her vagina and he was her pimp.  I told her I was okay and she'd walk a few feet away and then come back to say something she forgot.  I don't know about anybody else but that was my experience.  I even posted it elsewhere a couple of days ago.

I was actually just looking for a used copu of Splinter Cell for the Wii U and slowly browsing as I made my way to the Wii U section.  I didn't even get it.

Yeah could well have been the manager making sure she was ticking all the boxes to spread the word of what their selling at christmas. People are willing to do pretty much anything to keep a job now, but preaching about ms to keep a job in a gamestore you're trying to get money from the store, not Microsoft.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Working in most retail places gets you commission on big sales. She's trying to get extra money on her paycheck by pushing one of the most popular/expensive product for Christmas.

Microsoft did with the 360 and they will do it with the Xbox One. Sony doesn't need to resort to that even though I think they should be at least half as aggressive as Microsoft in marketing.

Resort to what? Advertising.

Didn't realize spending money to advertise your product is so wrong.

Did I say it was wrong? If you read what I wrote properly I said Sony should be as aggressive as they are. I said Sony has shown that they don't need to be as aggressive as Microsoft to beat them. If they tried as hard as Microsoft imagine how scary that would be? When I say "resort to" I its in response to great lengths set to equalize themselves to Sony. Free Fifa for day one Xbox One buyers in Europe. When the PS4 first came out I couldn't even find it and even if I was no one would've been shoving it in my face. I posted my experience at my mall where Microsoft had zero competition and they still couldn't sellout the Xbox One on Black Friday around the 2 a.m period at night. Again, that further bolstered my point that Microsoft NEEDS to resort to that. Not only did I get cornered at my mall outside the Microsoft store twice, but I also got corned at a Kiosk down the ball that Microsoft paid for to put extra Xbox Ones out into the middle of the walkway so people could see them.

Damn right I am. It's normally impossible for me to leave a Gamestop empty-handed but this employee on Thursday pushed Xbox One at me so hard, I got the fuck outta there. Felt like I was being molested.

the action of turning to and adopting a strategy or course of action, esp. a disagreeable or undesirable one, so as to resolve a difficult situation.

Using the word RESORT means you are saying Sony doesn't have to use undesirable measures (and you used marketing) to help sell their system. Next time choose better english.

You only posted one defitinition and a rather negative one at that:

    [ri-zawrt]  Show IPA
verb (used without object)
1.
to have recourse for use, help, or accomplishing something, often as a final available option
orresource: to resort to war.

Resort doesn't have to be disagreeable. It can mean going to great lengths especially in cases of war where someone goes through a "last  resort". Its a last course of action. Anywhere where there is competition a last resort can be used to win a match if one feels threatened enough.

IE: Microsoft making Fifa free to day one buyers in Europe when they found out their preorder numbers over there compared to Sony.

IE: Microsoft upping their clockspeed when they found out how fast the PS4 was compared to them.

I have other examples as well. I think those two should suffice though.

I used to work for a high end retailer, and there was a period where I used to get AUD$10 from Sony every time I successfully pushed one of their new cameras onto people. So it's not totally out of the realm of possibility. Give retail workers an incentive to push your product, the sales of your product go up.

I don't know about stores but in shopping centres I've noticed a lot of Xbox One adverts in the electronic display boards around the place (this is in Australia), and next to none for the PS4, so it definitely seems MS are spending big on advertising (understandably). Could be similar in stores through retailer margin incentives.

Actually yesterday I saw at bigw that they are selling the Xbox One at $578 (its usually $599 in Aus) whilst the PS4 is still $548, so maybe MS is offering more retailer margin that Sony, which BigW are passing on to the customer to get more sales. Its definitely the first time I've seen either console sell for less than the official price.
