I diagree Seece. The games arent there. I now people will pick up this post and run whatever they want with it. But like the launch games on The one or not, it is being talked abut that The One has more games. People are spending less time on PS4 at the moment in circles I know. And we never have PS4 parties. The Ps4 friends come over and play Killer Instinct tournies and race on Forza 5.

By no means is this gen over. It also wont just be a games machine thats the winner in 5 years. Theres more to this gen than games.

I agree with you Selnor it is to early to tell who is going to win. BUT I must say that things do CURRENTLY favor the PS4 not saying it will stay that way of course. But for now it is looking good for them. And of course the games aren't there yet it is the start of the generation so no one was expecting them to be there really. Heck the games aren't there for the PS4 or the XB1 right now if we are being honest. So that's not really a big deal.

But as far as games go Sony has a better track record of supporting their system so that advantage also goes with them. And I am not saying that just because I am a Sony fan, I am saying that because of how MS stopped supporting the 360 with games and that made me mad as a consumer with my 360(Ninja Blade, Lost Oddessy, Blue Dragon, Gears 1 etc were some of my favorites).

And heck I don't know of many people at all having PS4 orXB1 parties! That is RARE now a day seeing as everyone plays on line but seeing as most don't have both consoles yet that is really not a big deal. For instance 3 of my freinds are always inviting my over to their places to play on the PS4/XB1 hence the reason Ihave had so much time with both even though I don't have either. on XB1 NOTHING gets more time than KI. Granted none of us are really big racing game fans so FOrza doesn't really apply to us. As for Ryse me and one of my friends really liked the game and thought it was BEAUTIFUL to look at. But gameplay wise it was kind of bland/stale. Still a good game though but we like that genre so we are kind of biased lol.

On PS4 we play A LOT of Resogun and after that it is  the KZ:SF MP and Warframe which is kind of fun even though the game is borken. So no parties so to speak but just trying out the systems and having fun with them. And lastly again you are right by no means is this gen over and of course it won't be about JUST the games but that will ALWAYS be the core of what it is about. As it stands at the moment the systems are almost pretty even when it comes to the "extra" features even thoug it is well known MS will offer more. But that doesn't mean the PS4 won't have anything to offer they both will have some pretty awesome additions in the future. I am personally looking forward to what this generation brings!(lastly ignore any spelling mistakes and stuff don't feel like proof reading today lol)

I love how obsessed sony fans are with "WINNING!!!" everything. It's like their games just aren't that fun so they must find another way to enjoy their Sony fandom.. By constantly gloating about how much "THEY WIN!" even though Sony's success has absolutely nothing to do with them personally (and even when they sell the most they usually lose millions in the process). So.. yea.. GO SONY!

Well considering the PS1/2 made billions....no.

Sony as a whole (not just the gaming section) has lost everything the PS1/PS2 ever hoped to make them so we can throw that out can't we? (have you seen their stock?) Anyways the way i see it, i tend to agree that even if the Wii ended the generation with a big lead and made Nintendo more money then both of the HD twins that in the end if the PS3 passes the Wii in sales at any point in the future then everyone down the line will see it as the PS3 won the 7th generation of gaming. (just like we do with the last 6 gens of gaming).

Fitst of all this is vgchartz. Of course we're gonna talk about sales, both software and hardware.

Second, Seece made this thread. He's never been a Sony fanboy.

Third/Last but not least, as if the same thing cannot be said about ninty fans. There's a reason the term NIntendomination is one of the most commonly used words around here. Read any Japan weekly sales or even old threads when nds was selling like crazy, far ahead of everything else (combined). Sony fans are no more guilty of this than Ninty fans. Curious though. Did you make a similar remark when people talk about nintedomination? Did you tell them, "guys, it's about the games, not who wins".

In terms of money/profits? Probably. In terms of creating an incredibly powerful brand? Not really. IMHO the current success of the ps4 can be attributed to a great extent to the success of the ps1 and ps2, because customers have faith in Sony to deliver. As it is at the moment, there's little reason to own a ps4. People are buying them because of the brand. So, although in a way the ps3 was a big failure and cost sony more than ps1+2 made, their success is still affecting/helping Sony.

Im not so sure about giving PS4 the victory yet tbh. well see

If it wasn't for the Kinect, the Playstation would've had Microsoft since 2011. The reason for that is a massive amount of exclusives that Sony provides, which Sony had started to fall in a decline with in since 2009-2010 once the third party exclusives start drying up because the marketshare. Sony's first party started to rise from the ashes of a crappy launch, which still outsold the 360's first year. The Kinect wont have the allure that it had when it first came out. Casuals wont buy that. The vidoegame industry is also not important enough to them to be spending $500 until that price drops don't expect them to respond to the Xbox One. The Wii U? Well....lol Be happy if it sells 30 million in five years.

It's far too early to call the current gen winner. There are too many unknowns for the next year or two before things will start to look like they are settling in place.

(For example if the PS4 got a long way ahead of the PS4, MS could knock 50% off the MSRP of the XB1 next year and suddenly find they become the top selling system by a mile) Nintendo might decide £99.99 is the price point for the Wii U, and bundle Mario Kart and Mario Galaxy 3 or whatever with the Wii U along-side releasing a huge new Zelda.

As for PS3 catching up to the Wii, maybe, but I don't see it personally at this stage. I think the 360 took too much of it's userbase to be able to finish ahead of Wii now.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Enough data and evidence is in (as if you needed it before) that suggests PS4 will runaway with this generation, to what degree depends on how hard Microsoft fight with Xbox One, but whatever they do it's not going to be enough to take the lead.

Gen 5 - PS1 - WINNER!

Gen 6 - PS2 - WINNER!

Gen 7 - Wii - LOSER

Gen 8 - PS4 - WINNER!

So this comes down to if PS3 can overtake the Wii, the gap stands at about 19m~ having sold 9m+ this year (when holidays finish).

Can Sony do 4 in a row?

Also in the somewhat unlikely event Xbox 360 overtook Wii, the last 3 (6, 7 and current) generations could look like this

Sony > MS > Nintendo.

AS much as I like my PS4, I don't think this is any indication of what's to come, however here is what tells me about the hype level for each machines (anecdotal evidence in some points, be warned):

 - The PS4 is sold out all over the place, while I could have bought 3 xb1 last week, without any effort (in different stores)... it could mean that MS has a LOT more stock in my area, still, they were supposed to be constrained by their ability to produce them, not the number of clients...

- I know a couple of people who want PS4s (previous gen they had Sony or MS consoles... not is seems everyone wants the new Sony toy) while I heard, but never met, of someone's friend who wanted an xb1... (IE, it's not a common thing to want an xb1)

- All devs who expressed a preference for one system or the other said the PS4 was "better" for them in one way or another, at best some said they were equivalent, which can be interpreted in many ways depending on what they were referring to (talking multiplatform devs... people working exclusively for Sony or MS will not bad mouth the only platform where they will release their games).

- I have yet to see an online pool that favors the xb1

- Multiplatform games are better on the PS4, all of them, at best they are similar enough (Need For Speed, NBA 14 and other games that seem to be less demandint are close enough, but still favors the PS4 in some ways...)

- Both systems are released at around the same time, one is cheaper and offers a better gaming experience (native 1080p is EXPECTED on the PS4)

The only arguments left for the xbox 1 are:

- Cloud

- Magic scaler

- Better OS with proper voice/gesture controls + snap

- Multimedia features

- Hypothetical exclusives down the line

 The prolem is that:

- Cloud has yet to prove itself, and it's not as if the PS4 did not have access to internet for cloud computing... I highly doubt it's that useful, unless you want to make an MMO or something of that nature... cloud saves are nothing new...

- Magic scaler is a mess and well, a scaler as good as it may be will not replace native resolution output (or be close enough)

- Better OS: maybe, it seems messy compared to the 360, and it takes a lot of precious ressources from games... 10% for the GPU, 2 cores from the CPU and about 3GB of RAM.. and it's not as if the PS4's OS was stupidly bad or limited, it does a lot of things better and more easily as well as not getting in the way of your gaming.. we will see how that one evolves over the next few months/years.

- Multimedia: no way, both systems are laughably bad compared to the PS3 and xb360 (or any decent smart TV/Roku box), they don't even have proper DLNA support!... we will see how that one evolves over the next few months/years.

- The exclusives: I will not say that the xb1's exclusives will not be impressive or they will never materialise, but I will say that Sony has proven that they have more studios of their own over a longer period of time (Compared to MS) so I fully expect that by the end of 2014 there will be a couple more substantial games on the PS4 and they will look better than their xbox 1 counterparts, at the very least on a technical perspective...

There will always be people to insist that a game like Ryse, that runs at 900p with frame drops to 16fps is the proof that the xb1 is as much or more capable than the PS4... to me it seems more like it's showing the weakness of the system, as displaying nice images at a very low FPS is nothing new...

That is seriously one of the worst red herrings I've ever seen.

So losses primarily accumulated by their TV division several years later mean that profits from the PS1/2 don't count? Your statement that I underlined is blatantly incorrect, and no attempt at distraction will change that.

I'm not even going to say nice try, because it wasn't.
