Forums - Sales Discussion - PS Vita sales jump 68% following PS4 launch

The launch of PlayStation 4 has helped boost PlayStation Vita sales significantly, MCV reports.

According to the magazine, Vita sales rose by 68 per cent in the week of PS4's launch, and by 65 per cent the week after. It isn't known how many units that translates to, however.

Sony attributes the hardware's success to the launch of the new console, which can use the Vita as a second screen device or as a replacement for a TV, and to a new marketing campaign.

"PS Vita sales wise we are continuing to see strong week-on-week growth since our latest campaign kicked in," said senior product manager Ben Law. "The new TV advert went live this week and we've already seen amazing feedback from PS4 owners on the Remote Play feature, and the success of Tearaway highlights what [a] great proposition PS Vita is, either as a standalone device or as the perfect companion to PS4."

The PS4 launch could be the breakthrough the handheld has been waiting for: the device has struggled to make too much of a dent in the market in its eighteen months prior.

Which region does this refers to ? It would be something like from 3k to 5k?

carlos710 - Capitán Primero: Nintendo Defense Force

"Wii are legion, for Wii are many"

not surprising.
"ps4 controller sales increase after ps4 releases."

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

yoy ?

how much of that "rise" is due to this year's price cut and the holiday bundles ?

seems like PR crap to me

Won't know till January if this is because of the PS4 or just the holidays.

MCV so they mean UK? We had it only at +5% in the launch week and +15% the week after. So, sales of Vita are super undertracked right now in UK or they mean another market.

I mean, 4340 x 1.68 x 1.65 is something else as 4340 x 1.05 x 1.15...

I doubt that Vita rose only 5% in the launch week but also not sure if it is possible that Vita was around 12k only two weeks after it was at 4340 in UK. Btw if true, VGC had it only at 5237 the second week of PS4 launch. Taking the 4340 VGC had the week before launch as basis the difference between VGC numbers and possible real numbers sounds super weird. Almost a difference of 7k in only one week. that's a difference of more than 100%...

Is that year on year or week on week?

Corelation is not causation.

It's just UK. You should put that in the thread title.

And whilst good we have no idea what it was like beforehand, so it's pretty meaningless. Particularly as other systems have increased somewhat, due to Christmas and Cyber Monday and all that. So, it looks good and it's a positive trend, but I'm not yet jumping the gun on this one.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.
