I've seen both consoles at a friends house... (oops, wait a minute, I already did that thread)
For people that have had the chance to check out both new machines, I'm curious about opinions over how well each console seems put together along with the quality of pack-ins for each system.
The X1 has caught a lot of heat for being priced $100 more than the PS4, with that higher price point being set squarely on the shoulders of Kinect. For those that see Microsoft's second version of their gaming camera as a useless, forced add-on, I suppose that justifies the frustration felt for a $500 console, or at the very least, opens up another approach for opposing fanboys to sneak up and bash the X1 upside the head. For those that were and are excited about what the Kinect 2 is suppose to be capable of, the extra hundred bucks is trivial.
But I don't think the steeper price can be attributed to the Kinect exclusively.
Both consoles include headsets. The PS4's is the inline type. It was comfortable in the sense that it wasn't wrapped around the top of my skull, but because of the design, people seemed to have a hard time hearing me and vice-versa. I just had to talk louder.
The X1's on the other hand is the more conventional type, with a slim headband, over the ear speaker, and mic-stick. The sound was perfect and it simply looks like something you'd buy third party. They could have taken out the Kinect, released the console at $424 and said the extra 25 bucks, in comparison to the PS4, was for the headset and I woulda been fine with that. It really is that much better.
Both come with HDMI cords and while I've never been one to buy into the hype over Monster cables, the X1's is definitely the heavier of the two.
Controllers: well, this really is a preference thing but, ergonomically Microsoft still has the upper hand in my opinion, by a long shot. While the X1's slightly redesigned controller isn't quite as comfortable as the 360's; it's a little smaller, the grips aren't quite as angled,..... as far as build quality goes, it's better than both the 360 and PS4's. Sony finally put some triggers on there but they feel more like caps than actual triggers and the joysticks don't feel nearly as sturdy.
The consoles themselves, I didn't really have the chance to throw them around the room, stand on them, or find a machine that would insert/eject the discs repeatedly until the unit finally felt abused and quit. Other than that, they're both somewhat heavy and solid and certainly feel worth the hundreds of dollars you just traded for them.
--On a side note, I'm pleased that Microsoft decided to ditch that cheap looking platic feed tray that grinded it's way out whenever you pressed the button on the 360. Seems a lesson learned after the PS3 released with the more refined auto slot.
All in all though, I think the X1 has the better accessories. So maybe that extra hundred bucks isn't all just a slim, rectangular eye that listens to your every move.
