Forums - Microsoft Discussion - If Microsoft Made A Handheld...

What do you think would happen?

It would dominate 15 3.54%

It would be successful en... 57 13.44%

It would flop 158 37.26%

Vita would be a huge success in comparison 192 45.28%

Total:422

I'm just picturing a handheld the size of the X1 still with a powerbrick hanging off it full of AA batteries :D

I can't imagine they'd ever want this, would be more their interest to focus on the continued growth of their mobile phone range.

It would flop IMO.

Nintendo is currently and will likely retain dominance in this market.....forever (or replaced by mobile in the future).

Mobile gaming is becoming more and more popular due to low cost and easy integration into a our daily required device (smart phones).

This makes any new addition to the market pointless.

I think eventually Nintendo will make a device that combines the best qualities of mp3 players, hardware that supports games ranging from hardcore to $.99 games, and an eshop that rivals that of Steam. I hope this is where Nintendo goes next. Also, with built in skype because I can see skype face calls replacing phonecalls in the next 5-10 years.

Agreed, the market is Nintendo's for the taking, or losing.

It it will be interesting to see what they do next.

Still lagging behind iOS and android plus the numbers were small initially so if you think going from 1000 to 10000 is big for a size like microsoft then your out of your mind.

seriously odd choice of colours for a pie chart, looks like pacman has popped some LSD but yeah, windows phone isn't doing badly in comparison to when it launched, but it'll be some time before it returns a profit for Ms I'd say.

Indeed. I honestly think that when it comes down to a war between devices that can play both hardcore and cheap games that Nintendo has the advantage over Apple/Android devices. Right now those devices have insane sales, but there will be a point when ipads/iphones/andoid devices will be able to run the hardcore games just like Nintendo's can, except they won't have any amazing 1st party software (where as Nintendo does and will continue t0). So, permitting Nintendo is able to lure developers to create games that they can sell for $.99 or around there and that have the same amount of quality that games like Angry birds have, I think in the long run Nintendo wins the war against Apple/Andoid.
