Forums - Gaming Discussion - I don't think PS4 demand is as high as we are lead to believe.

Because the seller has to pay Ebay fees doesn't take away the fact that people are willing to pay $50-$100 more than RRP. That show's that there is lack of consoles to support the demand.

Just cause people arent willing to be ripped off on ebay in large numbers, doesnt mean there isnt demand.

eBay is not a reliable barometer for demand of a recently released console IMHO. I suspect most people learned their lesson from last gen's eBay sell offs being waay overpriced.

People are just more willing to be patient rather than pay inflated prices this go around.

Oh and I am guessing that this eBay sale would lead us all to believe there is little to no demand for the XB1 as well?

Apparently you can get an XB1 for less than the price of an XB1 ;)

Prices on ebay and stuff went down cause so many people try to sell their consoles cause they thought they would make profit.
If to many doing this prices drop.

On release date and the week after it it was a complete different picture

On the german and austrian ebay(i think they share most stuff) there were a bunch of PS4s that went for over 1500€.
Most of other auctions like this one settled for around 1000€...just for the hardware without games and so on.

There are people who have the need to pay these insane amounts of money cause they can't wait but there aren't surely enough of those people out there to cover all the auctions.
Those who wanted to pay that much did it already - Everyone else has to sell them for the prices you said...450 and stuff.

i think its a sign of the lack of Must Own games to me, there isnt a game on either system IMO thats a must own, so why pay 500-600$ on a system that essentially has few exclusives that are must own, and upgraded graphics on games that are on the older systems. The demand for systems at the 400$ price point is probably high but people with the economy the way it is and the lact of great exclusives is whats driving the prices down on ebay at the moment. Just one mans opinion of course.

I'll go with the tide here. We cannot make assumptions on demand just based on ebay ads. That's all I think.

This, I stole from grandpa...It's called soap.

There is certainly demand, but this silences the people that think you have to pay significantly more to get a PS4 outside of retail.

It seems few are actually paying $50 - $100 more than RRP. Some of these ebay ads are ending for less than the cost of a PS4 with taxes included.

i waited because i didn't want to pay more.

You should also let him know that you just got yours today on Best Buy. And the stock on best buy is already sold out too.

the demand is there for the PS4.

Not buying it. I don't judge demand for either PS4 or X1 through ebay. The millions list of waiting was from gamestop who sell to actual gamers. Not some parent who decided not to pick up a present yet for their kid and will pay over the amount of retail price. There is plenty of demand for both consoles and both will have a sell out holiday. /thread.

We will see, but I stand to my prediction: 10 million PS4s sold by december 2014.
