That they need to switch to multiplat and totally dominate everywhere. If it works well, prob consider not making hardware next gen...I think there is a huge market of people who play non Nintendo consoles / PC that would pay good money for tons of Nintendo software.

They killed it because the Wii U is struggling hard. When popular games like Just Dance are released on the Wii, it prevents people from wanting to "upgrade" (as they call it) to a Wii U and it hurts sales. If Just Dance, Skylanders, Disney Infinity, etc. weren't released on the Wii, it would have helped the Wii U sell more units, maybe not tons, but still.

Edit: I don't think that Nintendo should have killed the Wii as early as they did (around the beginning of 2011), but now that the Wii U is out, they should have.

I wonder, did the abandonment of the Wii scare anyone away from the Wii U? Or at least cause anyone to think twice? There has to be a bit of a fear that the console you're buying won't be supported for at least a year of its life on the market.

Well... I think Nintendo needed to kill off the wii to sell the wiiU... If the wii still had games coming for it, people would get it instead of the wiiU so... I think it makes sense as to why they stopped supporting it. I think the only reason Ubisoft even made new Just Dance for the wii is cause of the large install base.

And to be fair... If Nintendo really stopped supporting the wii... They wouldn't have support for the wiimote on the wiiU or make it backwards compatible with the wii and their first party did release Xenoblade as the wii's last game which was a zomfg jrpg

You can replace the word Nintendo with either Sony or MS in that statement and it would make a lot more sense.

It's Nintendo's burden to take the risks necessary to sell a new hardware generation while publishers have the luxury of leaning back and selling to a mature installed base. If Nintendo can't sell 3DSs and Wii Us, nobody is going to do it for them, so they need for focus on driving new platforms even if supporting old platforms would be more lucrative in the short term.

Yes, dropping the Wii like a rock undermined Nintendo's future credibility badly.

They didn't use to do this. Look at how long they supported the NES and SNES. But now, that games take longer to make, and with their refusal to expand development capacity, they're basically forced into this. And it's a damn shame.

How do you figure?  Nintendo has way more exclusives than either of them, and if people don't start buying the WiiU tons of people are missing out on amazing Nintendo games.  If the PS4 had its demand properly manufactured it prob would have outsold the WiiU's lifetime sales in 1 week of release.  Imagine how much Nintendo software would have sold with those PS4's when shelved next to the largely mediocore launch lineup it had / has.  I think Nintendo would make a total killing if they did it.  Certainly enough where it wouldn't matter if the WiiU sells well or not.  You could use it if you want or if you love Nintendo but think it is a bit gimmicky you can just play them on another platform.  I think it would rocket Nintendo to the top.  I like all of the Big 3 but I for one, find the WiiU a little bit too gimicky, but that being said, it has tons of amazing games.

yes.

I get really frustrated when looking at Wii U's current software line up and even worse their hardware sales. I can't see enough of a difference in any game on the Wii U to convince many people to make an upgrade. They would have been better off supporting the Wii until now cause all of the games would have come out faster and had a larger install base of interested players. A 99$ or 149$ Wii with a new Mario, new MK and SB would have been great this holiday. The sales of titles like Just Dance show us that the audience has yet to move on. It's like a console waiting to be the solution to for a problem that doesn't exist.
