Forums - Gaming Discussion - Did Xbox lose every advantage it had?

When you look at the advantages 360 had over PS3 for much of the generation:

Superior Multiplats

Lower Price

Better controller

Faster Installs

Party Chat

Now this generation with PS4 and Xbox One....

PS4 has superior multiplats, equal if not better controller, way faster installs than Xbox One, and a better Party Chat as well.

Oh, and this time around it's actually cheaper than Xbox, which was never the case with PS3 and 360.

You forgot the year head start.

you're missing some advantages but looking at the number of replies, I'm guessing that much was already said, just chiming in.

It still has the "gaming console for people who really, really like TV" advantage. It might also have the casual advantage but it's too soon to determine if Kinect is still a draw or not. I'm interested to see how Kinect games sell.

Launch titles mean nothing. I refuse to believe that anyone seriously buys a console primarily on the weight of launch titles.

Microsoft's biggest advantage is that a lot of people feel invested in Xbox Live because of achievements, friends lists, and that gaming score thing. That alone will bring back a lot of people. The same is true for Sony, too, of course, though Nintendo hasn't really understood how valuable that is yet.

But it is the same with his so called advantages of the xbox 360. None of them really meant something, no one buys a console because Multiplats might have 3 pixels more on the system, no one buys a console because of 2 seconds faster Installs or because of Party Chat and which controller is better is entirely subjective.

The only reasons why the Xbox 360 was so successful was because of the price point, because it released a year earlier than the ps3 and the fact that Microsoft managed to get the same level at 3rd party game support as Sony.

The price, the early releas and the game support were the reasons why the 360 had success.

And the price and the early releas are the real two big advantages MS lost this gen. They really have to look that they can lower the price as fast as they can.

People always list the controller as something better, my opinion it is rubbish because of the d-pad (you can't play Tekken on it) and the DS3 is slightly smaller so suited my hands better. Subjective opinion can't be used as a argument for advantages. The rest of the reasons are fine as they are fact but not that.

Hmm, pie.

Yes, but Xbox One still has other advantages, Kinect is better than PS Eye, more multimedia features, better launch titles.

I don't know how you can say that with a straight face. If it were possible to have an objective measure such a claim may be possible. But lacking any decent objective measure we are left with Metacritic.

PS4 has 13 games 75 and above

Xb one has 9 games 75 and above

PS4 has 16 games 70 and above

Xb one has 10 games 70 and above.

There are a number of multiplat games that haven't received enough Xb one reviews to get a metascore for Xb one, so those numbers are artificially low for Xb one.

PS4 has 2 games below 60

Xb one has 4 games below 60

Subjectively any one person can say they prefer the line up on one console or another, and that is absolutely fine and unarguable. But it's simply not true to say that Xb one has a launch games advantage in terms of mass market appeal.

Brand Xbox has lost all advantages that could have given it a chance of being the highest selling 8th gen console. But that was only ever an outside chance as soon as $399 was announced for PS4. Even if MS had done everything right with Xb one, including somehow managing to launch at $399 with Kinect, PS4 was always likely to sell more in all regions other than North America at $399, and the gap in North America would have been a lot smaller than the PS3 / 360 gap.

It has also certainly lost all of its advantages that made winning North America all but certain. But it has retained some potential to take North America. Sony can't count those North American chickens just yet.

But I am pretty confident that Xb one will sell more in North America than the original Xbox sold globally. So it's doing some things right. But it looks like it will have a hard time trying to keep up on a global scale. the potential is there for sales outside the USA to only rise to original global Xbox levels which would mean a 9 million console contraction.

I do wonder if MS has set a sales benchmark, which if not reached means there will be no Xbox One 2. Microsoft isn't going to like Xb one underselling compared to the Xbox 360 by too much, and I do think Xb one will undersell compared to the Xbox 360.

As far as I am concerned, PS4 has no advantages over One.

Controller is better on Xbox
Live > PSN
Xbox UI > PS4 UI
Xbox exclusives > PS4 exclusives

Before someone comes here whining about price or a bit better graphics, I do have a gaming pc which costs more than PS4&One combined. It has best graphics on multiplat titles and that 100$ is not an issue.

You mean RRoD?

I jest, I jest. If anyone took this comment seriously, you need help. lol!

I fail to see superiority.

The Xbox One is better suited to my needs. A multimedia device that does a lot out of the box. It has a better online infrastructure and more controller options that just work straight out of the box for every console sold.

Ive been let down by the PS4 visuals in comparison to Ryse Son Of Rome, When led to believe that PS4 was 50% more powerful. That is not the case on launch visuals. And entirely the opposite as Ryse is yet unbeaten.

Then theres the better controller on Xbox One.

The triggers alone win this. After using Feedback on triggers for The One going to without is like losing Surround sound and just having stereo. Also the PS4 Analog sticks are still in the wrong place.

Games also look more varied and more in development that are AAA exclusives. PS4 looks sparse and First Person Shooter loaded.

The only thing right now the PS4 has going for it is price. I know a lot of people who want to buy a new game. But are getting bored with KZ.

Xbox has MS money. They could easly buy games like Titanfall etc.
