Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Do you agree with this point of view?

pretty much yes.
We'll see if the total of console sales will drop for the first time.

I agree. I still think there are many more factors that ruined the Wii U's potential, but in the end it all boils down to this. This is why I say that they need to invest more in devs. They expanded their market into the blue ocean, now they need to expand back to the gamers. Mariokart and Yoshi's Epic Yarn ain't gonna do that.

indeed, buy some shit what that money.

I agree with most of it aside from two things.

"Microsoft figured out how to have a stable fan base like Sony and they have over 80 million in sales now. They basically have half of the PS2 real estate."

1. Saying that Microsoft, with the 360 found a way to have a stable fan base is false. They already had that on the Xbox 1. Their first system was already bigger than Nintendo's and it had one of the biggest games of all time on it. Mistakes on the part of Sony allowed the 360's fanbase to grow to what it is today. They didn't "pick up" (so to speak) on what made the PS2 a success and run with it - they just continued to do what was already working on the first Xbox and capitalized on Sony's faux pas'.

"The Wii U is not the case because it doesn't make gaming simple for non-gamers to just enjoy and move on with their lives. The Kinect did that hence why it gained twenty million in sales off the back of the Wii."

2. To the point about the Wii U - Nintendo made the mistake at targeting the wrong demographic. The system for one thing shares the "Wii" name, so you'd think Nintendo would target the same audience, but no. They took away motion controls and the system sellers in exchange for "hardcore titles". Nintendo's fans from the original wii, were mostly young children and adult women -- yet they were targeting the PS3 and 360 audience. Furthermore, they also pushed a tablet with the system that does not appeal to the audience they were targeting. The Wii U is a mess of mistaken identity.

Also. while I agree that Microsoft bundled in Kinect 2 on the Xbox One to attract and make money off of casual audiences, I disagree that the Kinect was only successful because of casual gamers. It reached 20 million because of the possibilities the technology had. If you looked at Project Natal demo videos - you'll see a human player interacting with video games in a way that never came close to happening. I think the Kinect became popular with the casual gamers because of party games -- but it sold well because of its lies.

I believe if Nintendo released the Wii U with just a Wiimote it would have sold a lot better. I don't feel the Wii was a fad, people just lost interest due to lack of compelling software. Nintendo tried to do something innovative and it backfired. To the contrary, Sony isn't really doing anything new and people love them for that.

I disagree with what was said about the Kinect. I feel MS is really happy with how well the new Kinect works and bundling it encourages developers to use it. The new Kinect is a cutting edge device that separates X1 from the competition. Even if it wasn't bundled, I'm sure it could sell 20 million again.

Anyhow, I am certain MS is going to exclude the Kinect in the future. I set up my X1 without even having Kinect connected. MS is already prepared to exclude it.

While the number of consoles might be shrinking, the number of core gamers will rise once again. And those are the ones that are buying games, not the casuals. What we will see is an unprecedented high ratio of hardware to software sales.... or not

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

ROFLMAO. Everybody should come see my wall where this is STAGE arguing with me.

In any case what do you think about STAGEs rambling ?

Nintendo never went for the casuals, they tried to be innovative with the wii but failed to attract the "core" gamers or so called "loyal customers" that would become big fans. The 360 gained a lot of fans last generation, and that is helping microsoft a lot with the one.

Nintendo's biggest problem is that the only people who are interested in nintendo style games are nintendo fans. Their software line ups aren't appealing to other gamers compared to what the x1/ps4 will have.
