It could at some point, but after Sega cancelled support to Platinum due to financial problems, the future was dim and uncertain for many of their projects. They just couldn´t refuse Nintendo´s offer to publish it. Better safe than sorry, right ?

Well, how the situation unfolds, it would be safe and sorry now.

Why sorry? Platinum is getting paid to develop the game. If it´s a flop the losses will be all of Nintendo. If it sells well both companies take the profits. From a business point of view, that was the best decision they could take.

It was this or cancel the project and proceed with lay-offs

That's why sorry.

Besides if it is a flop, Platinum will be affected as well. I doubt they would not get a part of the share if it makes profit. If they don't earn money to make their next game, then they will proceed with layoffs. I suppose it was the best deal they could get at the time, but don't tell me they will be happy if it flops.

I´m not saying that they will be pleased if the game don´t sell well. That´s not the point.

This is about business decisions. If you were a director at Platinum, what would you prefer ? Accept Nintendo´s offer and guarantee at least two years of funding and work for your company, and a future possibility of profits..... or rejecting it, fire your development team and wait for some sign from the heavens ?

At least they´re getting some room to breathe. Their financial situation could be even worse by now.  How this project will affect their reputation is uncertain yet.

Do these people realise that Nintendo owns the rights to Bayonetta 2?

Whinging to Platinum CAN'T make a difference, as they don't have the power to decide to port it to other systems. It's not difficult.

If you care that much just buy a Wii U, and get W101 whilst you're at it; it's a great game that deserves to be played.

You either own the IP or you don't. You don't just "own the rights" to one particular title in a series. And just because Nintendo published and funded the game doesn't mean that it will remain exclusive. Look at Mass Effect 1. MS published and funded that game, but it ended up on PS3 because the IP switched to a new publisher. MS didn't own anything with ME. Gears could end up on a PS console as well, if Epic Games strikes a deal with a different publisher, and they could retroactively place the whole Gears series on a PS console if they saw it as profitable (probably not). Same could happen with Bayonetta 2.

That being said, at this moment in time, this game is being published and funded by Nintendo, so right now, people need to just stfu and get a WiiU if they want it so bad. To ask them to port it isn't simply a matter of coding the game for PS and Xbox. They have to get a different publisher who will OK multiplatform development, have a financial plan, etc. etc. that goes into game development. It may be simple to port it, but so much more goes into something like that. Only reason ME appeared on PS is because EA straight up bought BioWare. To want Bayonetta 2 to appear on PS and Xbox is to either ask Platinum Games to get bought out (which happens, but isn't cool to wish upon independent developers, unless they want it) by a company that does multiplatform games across the board or for them to jump through the hoops of getting a different publisher after the game has already been mad. Either way, I don't think the gains would outweigh the cost in either situation.

So, TL;DR get a WiiU is you want this game right now

At the same time, I wouldn't advise holding out for a port announcement just because it could possibly happen.

Off-Topic: Boiler up.

Pretty much. If it comes out on other consoles at some point, so be it. You got the console for the games it had, and Bayonetta 2 just so happened to have released on it. But don't get a not WiiU thinking, from the outset, that you'll be playing this game.

Since none of them begging for the port got the game on PS360, there just trolling.

Well, it's MY point, when i explained to you why i regard it as "safe AND sorry" because of how the situation appears to shape up.

If you want to make a different point now go ahead, but you started to reply to me not the other way around and i made mine.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

You want the game then buy a Wii U. It's as simple as that.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

Wow, the spin in some of these comments is amazing. A 3rd party gets help from Nintendo to get one of their games released so the 3rd party is said to be "screwing over it's loyal fan base". But, whenever Nintendo loses previous exclusives to Sony and/or Microsoft it's "good business sense". It must be nice to rationalize things in your head that way, but in reality, you can't have it both ways.

Bayonetta 2 will NEVER be on any platform than the WiiU, it will NEVER be ported. No matter who owns the Bayonetta IP, the Bayonetta 2 game will ALWAYS belong to Nintendo.

"buying a license gives you the ability to make "something" with that intellectual property.
and what you do with that license is yours and yours alone, because you already paid the creator of the IP for the license.

There's no way an agreement where someone puts money on the project and someone else take control over it can exist.

The game is basically a nintendo game, developed by platinum using a license from sega.

Nintendo pays and have control over the game
platinum develops and receive money from nintendo for that
sega permits the utilisation of the bayonetta franchise and receive money for that (and maybe a share of the profits)

An IP is just a shell, sega owns the shell but not the game inside of it,because they didn't put money on said content..or are you suggesting that nintendo is paying for a game and then it will give it for free to sega to port on other consoles?it doesn't make any sense "

Either this guy is a whiny little bitch or it's more of a PR move. I'm going to go with the latter on this one because if anyone is a whiny bitch it's Kamiya. Seriously, no one is talking about Bayo 2 anymore. It's last weeks news and most have moved on with new consoles or news. This guy comes out and makes a tweet about people bugging to get people talking about that game again. Nonetheless from a sales stand point they can whine all they want on social media. It's still gonna flop commercially and they're just making themselves look like a joke to the rest of the industry.

I really wonder what other studios think of them acting like this. It's a compliment if people want your game on another platform and ask for it. I can just see 343, Naughty Dog or Respawn looking at their whiny tweets and just laughing at them.

Yeah, I see this begging everywhere, this game will be massive.
