He's half right,

Well. He is probably completely right, this guy is far from a village idiot, he knows his stuff, I doubt anyone on this forum is as smart as he is when it comes to video game engine technology.
The work he did on game engines well over a decade ago is still going to be powering and thus influencing Next Generation games, like Call of Duty and Titanfall (Uses the Source Engine which stems from Quake.)

There are many rendering techniques which we hadn't seen used last generation, both for improved performance and/or image quality.

well, looks like he wasn't smart enough to secure any royalties, because his founded company id is falling apart. And he jumped ship to oculus rift.

And that has anything to do with video game engine technology, how exactly?
If you think you can do better, go ahead. Build a game engine that puts IdTech to shame.

Good to know. I had similar sentiment. So, i am going to stick with PS3 till 2015. I mean they can play Destiny, Titanfall and Watchdogs. The biggest new ip's from third parties.

Me aswell. I still think the PS3 is the console to have next year. Its got the third party and some pretty nice exclusives for those who care about JRPG's aswell.

It woudl also have given time for developers to come up with software that compels us to upgrade more than what we see now.

And just exactly could he have improved the performance significantly ?

Lots of "little" things could always be improved, like culling and compression techniques, rasterization is actually extremely wastefull.

I don't expect "next generation" levels of graphics on last generation, but they could still see some gains and that may happen, it's not over for those old antiquated platforms just yet.

Culling and compression is pretty much as good as it gets. There's alot of games that use extreme forms of culling such as occlusion culling and compression ratios go as far as 4:1 for 32 bit colour space. Last I heard rasterization is waaaaaay more efficient in comparison to ray casting or ray tracing and other monte carlo methods to rendering.

i think this guy have mental problems

Yes, sure, a coding-genius and prodigy whose mental capabilities exceed yours by far has mental problems because you disagree with his opinion. Read his twitter account and try to even remotely understand what he talks about.

Just take a look at what would have been achieved on PS2:

What exactly was impressive about it ?

Regarding you, your knowledge and your attitude against other people and their work: nothing.
