...and excellent point.
The ONLY difference, Microsoft knew, that x360 numbers will be low/lower in Januray, due shortages, and COMMENTED on THAT, before NPD numbers came.
That makes "PS3 outselling x360 in January" statement more creadible.

"We're literally out of stock in many stores. We think this will have an impact on our sales," Bell said. "It may cause the overall industry number to be down a little bit.

"Retailers have been really upset, they are on allocation. It is a lag I think we're seeing in January and that may continue into February, then as spring ramps up, we'll be able to meet that demand."

TalonMan said it before I could... but I have something to add. They might have also said it because January 2008 might not have been as high as some might have expected. Last year in a similar timefram/dates, they sold 260k, and this year they sold 286k (according to VGChartz), an increase of 10%. NPD has them at nearly the same year over year, which is not good. Microsoft coming out and saying "we had supply issues" would make people (i.e. investors) more comfortable with a small(er) increase. Maybe people thought they'd break 300k or something, and have a bigger increase, but since they had supply issues, the numbers weren't going to be as high. Link to 2007. Link to 2008.

PooperScooper, I already said why he might adjust to the German tracking company. Try reading my post a few posts up.

No thanks stever. If he crumbles and changes for one he might as well do it for all.

Well then why bother looking at these numbers? If you want him to copy NPD and other tracking sites, just look at them when they come out. If he adjusts to NPD everytime, he might as well not do the tracking at all, and just become another thesimexchange that reports the numbers.

See stever that's why your an idiot. When did I say "he should follow the other trackers"

@ Steve - then don't change numbers at all. You can't change some numbers because yours doesn't agrees with theirs and not change other numbers on the same basis."

Mike_intell my point is don't change any numbers at all. Stop changing them. How can he claim Germany's numbers are more accurate then his and then claim NPDs are not.

Just stop shifting numbers and go by his samples"

My major concern with this is Ioi's hypocrisy. He is willing to change numbers consistently because other places cover more data than him in others and Japan, but when a bigger US based company that each of the manufacturers acknowledge differ from Ioi he doesn't change them? A word of advice then DON'T CHANGE THEM AT ALL THEN. This site kinda lost credibility to me now. "Lets change them to agree with these numbers but those guys numbers are way off" How about this "We have a limited amount of coverage but we aren't doing this for an exact science. Just to give the people a general idea of whats going on. If data differs from us oh well"

Ignoring the idiot statement, I already pointed out why ioi would change the numbers from what ChartTrack said and not change them off of NPD numbers. Different sizes in market and samples from those markets could result in him changing numbers off some trackers, and not off of others. When it comes to trackers, everything is more "official" than VGChartz (though a lot of places have started using us for numbers). It's not hypocritical. He wants the numbers to be as close as possible to what they really are. And using the above points, sometimes he may adjust numbers to make sure they are as accurate as possible.

I was told by admin I can only call people idiots IF they indeed act idiotic. I believe putting words in my mouth is a form of idiocy.

First of all, don't do that again. If your idea of debating requires insulting people, then you're in the wrong place.

Second - you didn't answer my question. Honestly, I must have missed when ioi adjusted the German numbers, but what was the reasoning and what was the source he was basing it on?

I believe it was ChartTrack (or at least that's what PooperScooper said), and ioi lowered PS3 German sales, and then raised PS3 UK sales, and it actually came out only 10k lower or something like that. This was last week I believe.

To quote yourself:  "No thanks stever. If he crumbles and changes for one he might as well do it for all."

And then you say "He shouldn't do it for any of them."

And I was trying to point out why he might do it for some, and not for others.

Stever I didnt say where it came from. But again it doesnt matter if he raised UK and lowered Germany. It doesn't matter how big of a difference came out of it. What matters is he should stop shifting and changing. You say so yourself he wants to go off his samples. If he went by other trackers why do what he does? HE SHOULD GO OFF HIS SAMPLES!
