Can the demise of the home console by mobile platforms be put to rest now?

Round? 900. Winner? Kowen (said ethomaz was going to be wrong about hes comment on yeilds and undertrakedness) Collateral Damage? Another Vgchartz thread. Altho its funny...because Kowen said he wasnt ever going to reply to Ethomaz ever again (yesterday i think?). That didnt last long. I know people say we should ignore it...but thats seriously hard given the number of posts in this thread already. I was going to way in on the discussion but then after reading the thread fully, I decided against it. Wasnt worth it. Not to mention depending on the bias/non bias of my post id be getting some heat from certain posters. I mean kitler made an honest mistake and a few minutes later he was already called out by like 1 million people even though he already admitted to have made a mistake. lol. |
too much truth for our own good.
Wow those are great sales, especially cause we keep hearing about stock being readily available at stores from people here.

imo, no. if in the march/april timeframe things are still looking this good then fine. ...but these sales still could be very, very front loaded with a huge drop-off after the holidays and that won't bode well for consoles.

If they both had launched in the same # of countries, then that would be kind of true. Except that the US market is much larger than the EU for M$, and just the opposite for Sony. Thats why I said that obviously Sony took a little less time (4 days) to achieve a similar #. I don't think many people would argue against the idea that the PS4 would outsell the XB1 if both had an endless supply available today. I think most people's point is that it is not as big of gap as many had predicted it would be by years end. A lot of people thought 1.5-3 to 1 and it is 1.2 to 1 at this point... |
Yes its a good turnaround by MS ,neither company is meeting demand yet but sony seems to be producing more consoles for whatever reason and has more demand by all accounts but thats what i expected, with xboxone i always thought it could take off with word of mouth because of its tv ,snap and kinect features none of which impress me personally but i haven't written off xboxone yet it could overtake ps4 in usa and uk but i think rest of world will be ps4

If the demand persists into next year Q1 - Q2 then yeah lets start celebrating. Although i dont think its mobile platforms that are the demise of home consoles...but rather home consoles have become their own demise.
Both PS4 and X1 can be seen as updated versions of their predecessors, and I can see it being a hard sell to a casual consumer.

I completely agree, next year and the year following that will determine the success of this generation. We see how the handheld market has shrunk, and the way WiiU kicked of for the first weeks only to die off.
Things definitely just got interesting. Of course, once both launch fully WW, it will get much less interesting. But hey, it will be fun while it lasts.
Also, can't wait to get NPD to see how much of Sony's 2.1M and MS 2M is US. Though, NPD won't cover all of MS's 18 days.

True, although you can use the updated version argument for every gen. At least from the casual consumer perspective.
But yeah, let's see what happens when stock is freely available next year.
