go Microsoft! I always kept faith in them. After such a rough reveal, they've truly won back consumer support. So happy!

The yield issue has been eplained in at least two threads here. Contraray of what you persistently deny, the yield issue was real late last year as anyone with some insight into the going-ons would know then. But since you insist on mincing words, I'll tell you the story AGAIN in simple terms so that even you might comprehend it at some point:
Late last year, MS shipped 15'000 wafers to three manufacturers for an initial production run of the SoC(s - it is not clear whether both SoCs were targeted or only one of them). Usually, an initial run comprises of around a few thousand chips, at most. Given the known die size of the APU, 15'000 wavers would result in over three million raw chips. That's over three million chips for maybe a need of a few hundred working chips. Do you see now why MS expected to have a yield problem? (as rumours have it, one foundry had ZERO working chips in the end).
And the key question: Does MS have yield issues now? While the XBox APU die size is larger than the PS4 die size (around 360 vs 320 mm^2), from the die shots that are floating around, it doesn't look like there is a fundamental difference in complexity or redundancy. So both Sony and MS can manufacture enough APUs/SoCs (in other words there are no yield issues as far as chips are concerned). The only difference is that manufacturing XBoxes is more expensive and likely takes more time per unit than PS4s. My guess is the difference is less than 20k units per week now, so in January there will be a difference of less than 3-400k in sold units (as both companies have roughly the same manufacturing capacities amd started manufacturing within 1-3 weeks of each other).

It would help if Ethomaz didnt post completely baseless facts about yield issues and sales figures. This goes both ways btw... you seem to be blaming this on one poster which i dont agree with. My problem is not so much the bickering but rather what happens around it. People wont just ignore it...and gradually everyone gets dragged down to that level. New posters think its the norm and carry out discussions in the same way. Basically sending a message to everybody that you dont need to think about your posts on Vgc, just post any random shit. Logic? Whats logic? We dont need that on Vgc. Respect? For who? Not here on the chartz. This causes the forums to slowly go downwards in quality. It will eventually end up in a place where most decent posters will just get fed up and leave. You can guess who will be left. Thats my pessimistic outlook on the situation...i guess i take these things too seriously. Ive been told to just let it go and laugh at their sillyness. Anyways.. i've contributed absolutely nothing to this thread. So il be on my merry way |
I'm new here but the issues you point out are more than obvious. It's getting very hard to read such threads and very possible to miss a really good post, made in the middle of console war chaos. I hope people generally understand that feeding their e-go does not really benefit them in real life.
OT: Very, very good sales. Impressive, really. I'm glad the new gen is making such an install base so early. It makes me hope we'll see good content, given time.
This, I stole from grandpa...It's called soap.
Interesting sales really.
Quite obvious demand for 1 is pretty high in spite of the bad press and price entry.
I reckon it is going to take a few months before word starts getting around as to how both are comparing in the wild.
MS must be pretty pleased though as they done a lot of back tracking prior to launch.
Both have nothing games wise to talk about yet which is not surprising so the word on the street will be important moving on.
Personally myself I am still betwixed and between atm as PS seems safe and X1 seems to want to be a whole entertainment hub out of the box.
I have said it before and I will say it again.
Both ps and 360 served me well right up until today and I am going to decide on punters views as to which one I get first so happy days for all concerned and well done MS and Sony for creating another buzz this gen.

If they both had launched in the same # of countries, then that would be kind of true. Except that the US market is much larger than the EU for M$, and just the opposite for Sony. Thats why I said that obviously Sony took a little less time (4 days) to achieve a similar #. I don't think many people would argue against the idea that the PS4 would outsell the XB1 if both had an endless supply available today. I think most people's point is that it is not as big of gap as many had predicted it would be by years end. A lot of people thought 1.5-3 to 1 and it is 1.2 to 1 at this point...
It is near the end of the end....
Fuck ethamoz stop posting negative news about Microsoft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.
Congratz to MS. I cannot wait to see what the numbers look like once production meets demand.
Let us all hope that this gen remains strong.
This is one hell of a turn around with all the bad press after the initial reveal. MS sure as hell turned around their fortunes.
WOW! That Bone is an absolute beast.
I admit at one point I wanted one too, but I am not so sure if I can handle the Allmighty power of Microsoft's Xbone.
I wonder if it were released in all europe (still not here in Finland), would it had outsold Ps4?I think not...And btw Ps4 is outsold here until 2014.
Take my love, take my land..
I posted this data point on Twitter earlier, but wanted to share it here:
Fun Fact: It took 5 months for Xbox 360 to sell 2 million units.
