its not microsofts goal to outsell sony, its to make money

The more you sell...the more you make.........Only selling in 1 territory versus WW is never a good thing.

how do i make more money if making one xbox one more costs more due to setting up another production line?

WTF does this have to do with anything?

this is the core of making money

It's clear you know nothing of making money!

There is a reason these companies are stumbling over each other for every extra sale.

sigh... fine if you think that

i will try to explain it one last time

SIMPLIFIED: lets say that currently the cost to get a xbox made and transported into the stores is 470. the stores also wanna make money so they get 25 bucks on each unit sold. that means microsoft makes 5 bucks profit on a unit

if they have to setup a new production line, make new contracts all on short notice costs go up.... to lets say 497 a pop they suddenly lose 27 bucks on a unit

this isn't magic is it?

Let us assume that MS shipped as munch as Sony. Sony sold 2.1 M PS4 worlwide compare to 1.5 M Xbox One of MS. So are you saying that demand for Xbox One is near 600 K less compare to PS4???

Maybe this is not that fair let us take the US which is MS strongest territory, 1.25 M PS4 vs 0.94 Xbox One. So are you saying that the demand for Xbox One in his strongest territory near 300 K less than the PS4???

That is of course assuming that the Xbox One is shipping at the same rate with the PS4...

Yield, production problems... being thrown around a lot it would seem in the time that I haven't been around and honstely, everything I've read about is is plain stupid.

No one can really say that MS is having yield/production issues unless someone who works there comes out and say it.

Also, to clear things up, supply issue is not the same as produciton issues/yield issues

Say MS' factories has a production capacity of 50,000 Xbox One units per day (this came out of my ass by the way). We don't really know what their acceptable yield is but, for the sake of the discussion, lets say that their daily target is 95% with a variance of +-5% of factory capacity, so their acceptable yield/production is 45,000 - 50,000 units. If MS is producing 47,000 - 49,000 units per day, then they are within their standards and therefore they DO NOT have produciton/yield issues.

Production/yield isseues would arrise if they are not able to produce units within their set limits. Say, they have been outputing only 40,000 units/day, then they have issues/problems.

Supply issues on the other hand is, as hopefully everyone here knows, is not being able to meet demand due to MS not being able to produce more units. Say, the demand for Xbox One is 60,000 per day, and since thier produciton capacity is at max only 50,000, then they DO HAVE supply issues.

Also, to address the strategy argument that its stupid for MS not to ship to this and that territory and so on and so forth because they ahve production issues blah blah blah... that argument is plain stupid.

MS has marketing and research teams that have already studied all of the supposed terrirories that they were suppose to release in. With the knowldege that they can only supply so much units, then they have to cut some countries from the launch. Obviously, they would be launching in the countries that they have found, based on their marketing reaserch, will yield the most sales. Frankly, its a good move by MS to only focus their available stocks in the countries where in they know that they will sell well or even sell out of their shipments. It wouldn't make much sense to divi up their available stocks just to include the other countries that they believe will not really gouble their Xbox Ones up. If they did that, then the US and the other countries that really want the Xbox One will have even less stocks and will have even more supply issues while the countries that are just so-so will have stocks liying around not selling.

None of us really know if Sony can make more PS4s as compared to MS and the Xbox One, but one thing is clear. In the countries that both consoles launched respectively, there is very high demand and everything that they ship out is selling out fast.

Now, please quit it with the produciton issues/yield problems equating to supply and demand... since you know, clearly, there is great demand for both and both do not have the supply to address the demand.

So you think that if MS was having either yield problems or production problem they would come out to say it???

You think that research were not made before when they said they were releasing in 21 countries, and that research were only made when they decided to shrink to 13 countries?

Or the research they made when they decided to release first in 21 countries was bad??

With Sony ahead in pre-orders in both US and UK, MS had no choice to focus on their strongest territories, it's as simple as that. If the Xbox One had released in all 21 countries it would still sell out, it would still have sold 1.5 M but it would be in 21 countries. MS prefered to focus on both US and UK the most for their Xbox One launch (sold 1.1 Xbox out of 1.5 in US+UK )since the PS4 seems to be doing better than them in their strongest territories.

As I am writing this, I can pre-order Xbox One for December 16 on both WallMart and Gamestop.

It's just nonsense that's what it is. I can drive to the German or French border in two hours tops and get a XOne, only difference will be that the manual and interface is in a different language. That doesn't take a year to fix. Maybe they just want to support more languages for voice command day one, but if that's true it would be retarded becauses the feature is not that interesting and about everyone knows English here anyway.

you do know that MS has different departments? there's marketing, reaserch, operations, accounting, etc. each department works along side the others but do not necessarily mean that the are all aligned... ummm... yeah... let me put it this way...so thay you and everyone else can understand...

Marketing: yo! from our studies, these are the countries we need to lauch in first

CEO: hmmm... looks good! how many can we sell?

Marketing: we can sell a gajillion billion units!

CEO: WOOOAAAH!!!! hellz YEAH!! (has meeting with directors)

CEO:  hey, board of directors, we gonna lauch in these countries and we gonna sell a gajillion billion xbox ones!! yeah!!

Direcotrs: WOOOOOAAHHH!!!! hellz YEAH!!! So...how much you needz?

CEO: ummm.... yeah... about dat, we need a few billion dollars to....

CEO: WUUUUUTTT?!!! DAMN FRAPERS!!! hey, marketing fools..we can only make this manyzzz. re do your research again...

Marketing: wUUUTTTT!!?? AWWW MAN!!!

yeah....believe it or not, thats how companies/corporations actually work...given that there are stock holders of MS that are pushing for the Xbox brand to be sold or split or whatever from the main company, I'm sure they had to work with what they were given.

Do you know that it was at E3 that Microsoft said they were launching in 21 countries. It was not said in some random show it was said first at E3...

He is implying that when they made that 21 countries projection they didn't have the "billion dollars from the directors" yet. So that is what is giving me a laugh. He is  implying that MS made such a declaration at E3 without having made research or already got the budget to be ready for 21 countries.

What he said is basicly 2 years ago microsoft board set a budget for Xbox one r&d and xbox one production, now that the demands is suddenly much bigger at launch then anticipated, they cant suddenly decide to create one or more extra factories. thats all.

If this is what he was trying to say then there would have been no reason to even start the discussion.

I said earlier: "With  Sony ahead in pre-orders in both US and UK, MS had no choice to focus on their strongest territories, it's as simple as that. I am saying it's more likely that they changed their strategy. And I also believe that it is the best strategy for them.

umm.. I dont know if you actually read my first post or what you're trying to achieve, imply or whatever as I never mentioned that I think this or I think that. I was addressing the silly notion that not meeting demand immediately means produciton problems which is not always the case. None of use know if MS is having produciton issues or if their max produciton capacity just really can't keep up with demand.

As for the marketing thing, yes, they have research and shyet like that. all competent companies do that. why did they cut the original 21 launch countries to 13? Who knows? maybe yield issues? maybe capcity issues? maybe programing issues? maybe what they are saying is true regarding the voice command? unelss some insider comes out and say it, no one really knows and I doubt that an insider would actually come out and say it.

My beset guess would be that from the 21 countries, their research and pre-order numbers suggested that the 13 countries were where they can be sure that most if not all of their shipment will sell through and very little to none will sit on shelves for an extended period of time. They wanted to avoid scenarios where in consoles would be sitting on shelves for exteneded period of time.

As for strategy, they never changed strategy. I would assume that the original launch countries were the top xbox markets. all MS did was merely cut the bottom ranked countries and opted to release on the top ranked countries to ensure quick sell thorugh.

bottom line is, even if MS is not meeting demand, the fact that they are selling through most if not all of their shipments is already a success for MS.

Would it hurt MS to delay launch to the rest of the world? no it wont as they are already hard pressed to meet demand in the countries where they already launched. would Sony kill them because of this? I dont believe so as Sony is also having problems meeting demand.
