Actually yes they are shipping less on purpose, its how you keep up with demand. See how Xbox One is able to restock retailers every few days? Its a simple strategy that seems to be working.

How?

Been on the top charts of Amazon for a few days now. Seeing this week's sales are going to be interesting.

Lol 65k? that's a record?

It's the same as the US buying 900k consoles at launch. Surely a great number.

You mean 65k in Australia is the same as 900k in US? Because it's a much smaller market?

Doesn't make it less impressive just because it's a smaller market.

If you think 65k (actually 66k) is not impressive, then it's only logical that you have the same feeling about a console/handheld selling 900k in a week in the US.

Thread Title: "Xbox One smashes sales records"
OP: "Xbox One smashes sales records in Australia"

its the title of the article he linked.  not his fault.  does it matter that much to you?

Yes, thread titles that accurately reflect the content of the thread matter to me.

The article comes from an Australian source. The OP could have updated the title to make it more appropriate for the global audience of this website.

And people don't understand how big of % that is, same % as America selling 950k

Shame on Sony.

From the article

Unprecedented demand

“It’s been overwhelming,” he said. “I’ve been around since PlayStation One and we still haven’t seen the kind of demand we’re seeing now for PS4.

“The first weekend sales figures is just the beginning because we haven’t fulfilled all the pre-orders yet. We haven’t been able to completely fulfil the demand as yet but we will. Hopefully consumers can buy one.”

if you have evidence... show it.

a lower shipment figure doesnt mean yeild issues by the way.

But back to the evidence, lets see it.

My evidences... lower shipment = yields issues... or did you thing MS is shipping less on pourpose? I'm sure if they can produce more they are doing that right now... the % of good chips from MS is lower than Sony... all the others parts of the consoles are easy to produce for both.

PS. I expect to Sony have issues with low GDDR5 production but seems like Sansumg is deliverying what Sony needs.

sony having yield issues! i mean, why not ship 5m day one if you have no yield issues and if you could sell so many?

maybe they simply don't have as many production capacities because they didn't want to overblow their capacities in the months after release to have too high costs when sales slow down? since microsoft probably expects fewer sales in the next year it only makes sense that they already have lower production capacities. it's not as if you can say you want to have 5m consoles at release but only capacities for few million more for the next 9 months... if you have too many capacities you throw a lot of money out of the window so that it can be better to have less capacities which means low stock at release but enough for the months after and much lower costs for the months after release.

what you say is that microsoft gave foxconn the same amount of money as sony to build facilities/machines for the same production capacities  (with lower production because of yield issues) even if they won't need much of what foxconn build for them after the first months.

or maybe microsoft was even surprised by the demand so that they would have produced more if they would have known it better early enough and not only the last months before release when pre-orders probably increased a lot.

or maybe mass production of the xbox started 2 weeks later....

or maybe...

who knows, right? it's all just a guess, the problem is that you act as if it is a fact just because one company produces more units as another company. something which happens with almost every company and product compared to another company. there are a lot of possibilities and none of them is "a fact" as long as you have a proof.

so, you may be right or wrong but as long as you have nothing as "one company produced more as the other", you should maybe change your "it is a fact" to "it is a guess"

And some guys here believed MS didn't shipped over 300k outside US.

And some guys here believed MS have serious yield issues.

You may be right the ONE may well be overtracked in the US Ethomaz... but as with xbox 360 it will be undertracked outside the USA.
