Forums - Sony Discussion - Why didn't sackboy become bigger?

Sony really pushed LBP LBP psp LBP 2 and LBP Vita. They were all fantastic, and some of the most unique, and fun games of last gen. Sackboy is a really likeable fun character, and with the sales of 1 and 2 he seemed poised to become a huge mascot for them. So why didn't he gain more popularity? Honestly he seems to have all the components for a good mascot. He's adoarable, his games are amazing, unique, etc. Why didn't sackboy, and LBP as a franchise, become bigger?

IDK

I've only played Little Big Planet 1, but the game itself just wasn't good enough to propel its lead to mascot status, in my view.

Really? I found it absolutely refreshing. The platforming is floaty, but the single player is well designed, and the sheer scope and variety in the community kept me at it for hundreds of hours.

He actually is Sony's mascot, or at least the closest thing they have to one. He's stuck so many places. Even official forms have the little guy on them.

Unrelated but LBP Hub was said to be December...

Sony wants to push new IP's instead of using same game more. As people already having fun with LBP 2 and its tool to create their levels so Sony did not want a new game like that instead they are trying to improve the user tools more convenient with Littble Big plant Hub so people can enjoy more from it.

I don't expect a new until 2015 or later in 3D.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

Lol. Did Sony really "push" those games though? Sure they sold well - but Sony's marketing wasn't all that great. I remember Sackboy being really big back in 08/09 and comparison to Mario was made all the time. It's pretty obvious why the character didn't take off; it's because the franchise never took off. The franchise never took off because Sony didn't "push" it. 5 games in 5 years? Mario has almost double that in one year alone (you can check back in the 90's and the number still holds true).

In summary: Lack of marketing; not enough games.

I kind of miss when companies really wanted a mascot to sell their brand, it's not really needed today though. Sackboy was probably as close as it will get for Sony.

For me, a platformer lives or dies on the strengths of its physics, and LBP just felt too loose.

probably because he wasn't filled with enough magic to become bigger
