Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Cranky Kong was the only announcement trending on Twitter after VGX

Nintendo made everyone mad with DKC being shown off but their underwhelming announcement techique worked well as Cranky Kong was the only thing trending on Twitter out of VGX

Here's the listing

This is a common strategy among companies and here's exactly what Nintendo did:

Step 1: Announce you are going to an event you have never been to.
Step 2: Announce you are bringing some new gameplay footage to that event to get the hype bubbling up.(Announcing skull kid assist trophy before VGX, Showing off the master sword, wearing a Zelda Jacket with Zelda 1's logo)
Step 3: Make an underwhelming, but fanservicey, announcement.
Step 4: Watch the overhyped disappointment explode and ultimately the product awareness skyrocket.

What do you guys think about this free advertisement Nintendo just got

bet with ash3336 he wins if Super Mario 3D World sells less than Mario Sunshine during the first three years, I win if 3D World outsells Sunshine's first 3 years. Loser get sig controlled for 3 months (punishment might change)

Do you doubt the WiiU? Do you believe that it won't match the GC?

Then come and accept this bet

Outside of this site (maybe the video game community), a lot of people aren't as Cranky about the Cranky announcement. Infact a lot of people think Cranky is kind of cool.

Given I do agree just because these people find it cool, doesn't mean they will buy the console, and Nintendo needs people to buy consoles.

However what people are pissed off is about Joel Mchale.

I'm so hyped to play as Crank.... LOL I can't even complete that sentence.

Keighly was the one doing the overhyping. The one really coming damaged out of this is him and his rapidly sinking credibility.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Yeah, he was the one saying that it was going to be a "world premier".

I was very disappointed and my heart was pumping hard when they kept asking for something more to show and I was thinking this was a play to unveil the actual announcement which never happened :P

now I just think it's hilarious and ready for another hype round haha

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

What an awful show that was.
Im very hyped for DK, those levels looked great.

And surprisingly very few people were mocking Nintendo or Cranky Kong. It basically went in this order:

1. People surprise as to why Cranky Kong was is the top trends
2. People posting the news about Cranky Kong
3. People making jokes about Cranky Kong (but not mocking)
4. Making jokes that because the VGX were so bad that Cranky was the best thing of the show
5. People actually being happy about the announcement
6. People mocking Nintendo and/or DKC: Tropical Freeze

Yeah, the only statement Nintendo themselves made whas that they'd give "A new look on an upcoming game". That's it.
