GOTY to me was between TLOU and SM3DW. GTA V was fun for about 8 - 10 hours and after all the boring driving in between missions and the terrible online play, I just went and sold it. I still give it a sold 9 for great environment, good story, and just an overall solid experience but TLOU and SM3DW are games are both solid 10's.

Play the game and then return to me. It is truly something special beyond that of "an amazing" game.

InFAMOUS 2 was truly something special! ;)

No.

The online is complete trash, nothing good to be had there at all.

The single player really doesn't do much to advance what Vice City or San andreas did years ago. Yeah it was much better than GTAIV, but GTAIV was a pile of shit so that isn't an achievement at all.

The combat mechanics are clunky and really outdated, and that goes for most of the game. Too many missions for fetch quests or just 'go here, kill X' with only major heists standing out, of which are not many.

GTAV reviews are all invalid, since they all released before the multiplayer launched and games always get dragged down for bad multiplayers, GTAVs multiplayer is awful and built around microtransactions.

Why is the online trash? It is full of complete dicks, but when I found the right group of people, I had one of the greatest online experiences ever.

You make a lot of valid points sir.

I'm sure it is, but that's just your opinion! Many hold the same about GTAV clearly.

I don't own a PS3 either so I can't play it.

I'm fairly certain GTA3 was special when it came out. GTAV builds on it and adds stuff, making it bigger and better (something both Vice City, San Andreas and GTAIV did as well). It's an improvement, a clear one. Just like my beloved Uncharted 2 & 3 are. But is it special beyond masterful? In my eyes, no. And I played it quite a bit both online and offline. TLOU wins for being something new and pushing the medium forward in writing, characters, gameplay, AI, narration and more, by far. Obviously it wouldn't matter if it wasn't masterful also which it is.

Just fucking look at dis man:

Just started GTAV, but so far it feels like more of the same. TLOU was a unique experience due to the story, suspense, and fully fleshed out characters. Plus it was much more impressive visually. So no, GTAV didn't deserve it.

GTAV is a jack of all trades, but a master in none. Like most GTA's have been. Because you can 'do everything', you can't actually do anything satisfactory. The games are all aimless.

So no, GTAV didn't deserve that GotY award, but I'm not surprised it got it.

Not played TLoU so can't compare, all I know is GTAV is amazing.

Has a higher meta, and sold considerably etter. So other than your own opinion what can you use to say TLOU deserved it more?

Sales should have no influence on the picking of the GOTY, but alas, this is VGX.

Also, TLOU has muc more perfect scores, much better user score and much more reviews than GTA V (almost two times more). If it weren't for polygon and Qt3, TLOU's metacritic would have been the same as GTA's. And like i said, TLOU has almost 2x times the reviews GTA has (98 vs 50) so that brings the averige score down.

That's the beauty of we all having different tastes; you just need to accept that VGX's people was favoring GTA V instead of TLoU. That doesn't disminish the achievement of one game ;D

I can agree with bolded, the rest I can't.

I agree that opinions are king and tha there are different tastes obviously but then there are also well formed opinions that have weight and then there are poor ones that have none.

Reading a guy write "TLOU sux 5.0, my opinion", is not the same as someone going in-depth as to why that is regardless of if one agrees or not.

"I can see you make valid points, but I disagree" is a great example of an opinion being met with a well thought out response.

A good opinion can be shared and the reader should be able to feel the writer makes valid points.

So who is this reader?  Me, for myself, obviously. That one varies heavily too.

A forum is for arguments and discussions. Tossing a "my opinion" tag on everything doesn't mean shit.
