You really have to love silly internet overreaction. Happens every time. It doesn't matter what Nintendo might have shown, it wouldn't have been good enough and there would still be complainers. I admit, personally I was hoping for something else, but the Cranky reveal would have been cooler if it hadn't gotten spoiled by someone somehow leaking the boxart early. Honestly though, Cranky being playable, and his play paying homage to the classic Duck Tales game? How is that in any way bad? The game looks pretty cool, and though it's not what I'm most excited for gong forward, people's overreactions are hilariously dumb.

It's not bad, just have a limited appeal and it's just a character inclusion in a game that everyone knew about. It would be the same if they announceda  character in Smash. Nice, but why bother showing up and doing a presentation?

Exactly.  And in the very least why have Reggie announce it?

"Games are a trigger for adults to again become primitive, primal, as a way of thinking and remembering. An adult is a child who has more ethics and morals, that's all. When I am a child, creating, I am not creating a game. I am in the game. The game is not for children, it is for me. It is for an adult who still has a character of a child."

Because Reggie is the most "internet visible" person outside of Miyamoto from the Nintendo camp to NA gamers.

And because regardless of how anti-climatic an announcement it may have seemed, it did in fact get a lot of attention and got people talking. That's most likely what they were going for.

As a business major, I completely understand what Nintendo is doing. For as much as Wii U sales are not really that great, what hurts the company financially way worse is when a games like Wonderful 101 and Mario and Luigi Dream Team don't sell very well. The hardware will always have more games to boost it, but when a game flops, thats just a financial loss, expecially if it does'nt have legs. Nintendo can't afford for DK to be a flop, while Smash/Kart are going to sell well either way. As a gamer.....it sucks. This DK needs to just get out already. It keeps showing up (E3,VGX) when I would rather see Metroid or Zelda. DKC is my favorite sidescoller other than Mega Man X, but I want to see the Wii U pushed to its limits. After seeing the Zelda teaser and Pokemon Fighters teaser, and SM3DW, I just want to see the console pushed to its limits. Either way I'll take Cranky for now, but I really hope Reggie wore that Metroid pin to get us all talking, so when its revealed it will feel big.

It certainly would have been out of place at what the VGAs once *were*, an actual stage show with spectacle and some semblance of hype (and immediate public feedback). It fit much better for what the VGX now *is*, seeming to be a glorified platform for demos and trailers.

I was against DK showing up, until i saw how bad the show was overall. Then it's just like "Meh."

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

After seeing (a bit of) the VGA's for the first time, i'm offended that iwata led Nintendo attend.

Why do you ask?

I would imagine that there was one person at Nintendo in charge of the decisions to both end E3 with Nintendoland fireworks and announce Cranky at VGX. For the sake of the future of Nintendo, I hope that person gets demoted out of their power position. Things are looking really bad.

This was all this show deserved. It worked and got people talking about the game. They need all the new wii u owners after christmas to be excited about this. Plus it does looked great im planning to pick it up.

Honestly, they should have followed it up with a snippet of a upcoming game along the lines of X, Bayonetta 2 or even a unreleased trailer of the new Smash Bros. game.

Looking at Wii U's 2014 lineup, which already looks fuckin' stacked, and that doesn't include several games we've inevitably not even heard of yet, I'm gonna go ahead and say that no, they're not.
