I've yet to play a Tales game that disappoints me. Even Phantasia was a blast to play.

Whoa, even? Phantasia is probably one of the best Tales of all time . (It being my most replayed Tales of game. 4 playthroughs on the Dejap translation of the Snes version, 2 playthroughs on the Phantasian Productions translation of the PSX version and 2 on the insanely bad GBA port, might have something to do with my views of it xD).

First (and only) time I played it was on the GBA, that's why xD

Oh you poor man . That port is so bad that it almost drove me, an old time Tales of fan who completely loves Phantasia, to give up on it.

My second playthrough on it was because I never could finish the game on Mania mode in the PSX (since the speed of the casts didn't fit well with the Destiny engine they used for that port, and it was almost impossible to get Klarth's Origin summon and Arche's high damaging magics to come out in battles, before they were killed).
At least Mania mode was manageable on the GBA port (Lvl. 3 difficulty on it)

The best RPG franchises are:

Suikoden
Grandia

but they are dormant.

From the active ones:

Persona
Tales

Its difficult for me to throw in strategy RPG's in there, but Fire Emblem has been ok aswell.

Since I don't really consider Zelda a JRPG series, Monster Hunter.

Not even counting Dragon quest, chronologically the first jrpg franchise of all timen and one of the most sold is so weird.

Plus I always thought zelda was an action adventure game...

Grandia lost a lot of it's potential with Grandia Xtreme. That game was abhorrent to the Grandia name. Though if we go back, Grandia and Grandia 2 were two of the best JRPG gems of their time.

That and Justin + Feena are one of the best couples in any JRPG .

I loved all 4 of them. Xtreme was light on story but the combat was great as always. The series consistently delivers a great combat system, if not the best.

Though, yeah... the first 2 were the best.

Fixed, Nem.

What about the Tales series lol? Or Xeno games for that matters? those are both great Jrpgs.
