Forums - Sales Discussion - Microsoft claims Xbox One sold out worldwide; Retailers beg to differ

What do you mean "prove it"? I am not a fanboy, who will take pictures of XB1s just in case I may need to prove to people on an internet forum. I have no incentive or interest in lying here, not that I am much of liar. I also have much better things to do now, especially right before the end of the school season, busy with students flocking around me constantly asking "will this be on the test, professor?", while I am supposed to prepare several 3-page long exams and grade a few hundred exams within the following 72 hours, along with several seminars, conferences, several quasi-necessary meetings and a semester farewell party, all of this, right before heading to the frigid cold North-East, yet again.

But still, the next time I am in a best-buy or another mall, I will grab my smarphone and take a picture of the XB1s, just for you. Seriously, they are easily available, but I am sure, given the increasing demand for next-gen consoles, many of those will be gone by the end of Christmas, even if it's partially because many disgruntled Playstation fans who will turn to XB1 after not being able to find one. As a matter of fact, I have just seen one, a fellow, who wanted to grab the PS4 at campus Co-op, only to find out that even the showcase one was sold, and he just didn't want to wait another few months and will probably end up buying and XB1 unless he can find a PS4 at Xmas.

So Xbox 1 is not sold out because you saw one at a retailer...

Around the Network

It's quite obvious they haven't sold out. Microsoft's statement is just a play on words. If as little as 2 stores in different cities around the world have sold out, the statement would be correct!

A store haveing one xbone is stock is pretty much sold out

This report is ridiculous. You can't judge a console's sales based on anecdotal evidence from a handful of stores. The fact that it's been consistently sold out at online retailers and the fact that even those local retailers that are reporting having Xbox One's in stock only have a few clearly shows that demand for the Xbox One is quite high.

If it were "quite high", then why didn't one single person bid on my GFs Xbone on Ebay? Check that, not one single VIEW lol. Yeah, that's right. The thing was up there for five days and didn't even get a single view. It was listed for market value, with free shipping. She was planning on getting some extra Christmas money but had to return the thing instead.

I think the Xbone will do fine, but it's clearly not in high demand.

I agree with this. I believe XB1 will do fine to some extent, at least in English-speaking countries. MS needs to understand something. They are too Anglo-centric, and do not have a global vision. Their brand awareness is overestimated, most of which was because of price advantage and network effects, which are entirely gone. So, instead of trying to measure up with Sony globally, with over-ambitious unrealistic and insincere goals, MS needs to focus where they are better supported (English speaking world), with a more humble and sincere stance.

Now, though, they are far from that, with their insincere, deceptive, arrogant, manipulative, sinister, and worst of all, badly executed disoriented policies. A benevolent dictator may be better than an incapable elected president, but an incapable dictator is the worst. Microsoft is trying to be a dictator, but is not even capable of being a good one; then don't!

its not as sold out as the ps4 but ps4 i dont think as much were made..

but lets me real Microsoft has been lying befour the console was out and they still are after about a few things its what they do.. its what all the companies do.

tell me, how on earth is ms lying when they say that xbox one units are "sold out at retailers around the world?"

Do they say that xbox one units are sold out at all retailers?  No, they don't.  People who are getting upset over ms's statement just have poor comprehension skills.

edit:  and that ps4 watchdogs thing- ubisoft was at fault on that one.  they confirmed that a while ago.

This is getting really annoyingly defensive and dishonestly twisting... Why on earth would you think MS said "sold out at retailers around the world?" unless they want to give an impression that "It is very hard to find Xbox Ones out there, because all or possibly virtually all stores are out of their stock as they all sell almost everything they got"... THIS IS THE IMPRESSION THEY ARE TRYING TO CREATE.

Whether or not the technicality or loop holes or semantics exactly mean that is IRRELEVANT. The reason they are uttering those words, is because they want to look on parity with PS4, creating an image that XB1 is in as much demand as PS4, which it is not.

Call it whatever you want; pick any one below,

- flat out lying

- deceiving

- cheating

- misleading

- manipulation of the media

....

whatever!!! This is exactly what MS has been trying to do ever since the beginning of the Next-Gen Race. Luckily, Microsoft, having the worst possible bureacracy and execution on Earth, has an enoourmous capability to screw things up. Public relations and communication through media are no exceptions. Luckily for us, who have "clear enough vision", everything is day and night now.

Microsoft, I will be celebrating the day you are no more! Seriously, the world will be a much better place without you.

Nah, you're just delusional and biased.  Your last statement pretty much throws away any credibility you had.

I think I'll go with that.

Around the Network

I think the only area that has tons of Xbox Ones is Massachusetts.
I looked at Virginia and Maryland, which big retailers restocked on the Thanksgiving to sell out again.

No, I have seen XB1s in a dozen Best-buys in MA-CT region, each of those having a minimum of half a dozen.... Many of them had installed demo units, and showcasing already, none with any PS4 whatsoever. Could you please bother reading my previous post before quoting me.

"I have just seen one..." refers to a PERSON, who wanted to buy a PS4, but was disgruntled after not finding, and decided to buy an XB1 instead unless he can find a PS4 before Xmas.

You can of course go with whatever you like, and it is true that I am biased against Microsoft as a company, but I have nothing against XB1 as a machine. Also I may be biased, but MY EYES ARE NOT. Opinion is one thing, reporting what I saw is another, which cannot be biased. I know what I saw. I have no incentive to lie, and you will never ever see me lie, I promise. You can twist my words any way you like, but lying is not one of my habits, which I resorted only a handful of times in life, mostly when I was a little kid.

You've been to a dozen Best Buys?

I will be glad when we get some hard numbers for the Xbox One. Since MS announced 1M+ in "less than" 24 hrs, it's obvious they just went by how much they shipped, just to get out a number quick and equal to Sony's. The difference is that Sony waited 2-3 days to come out with sales, because they were looking for more accurate numbers. If people think MS have sold much over 1.2M, they are only fooling themselves, as MS would have announced something to combat Sony's numbers if they were close.

Dozen of Best-Buys, with minimum of half of dozen Xbox Ones on each stores and they don't offer any type of X1 SKUs online or store pick up.

Doesn't seem odd to you?
