Personally, I don't care about swapping after hours and hours of play or installs (a la GTAV).
I NEVER hear people talk about the best feature of Bluray discs. It’s not the storage, the best thing is the scratch resistant discs. I love that scratches are never a big concern with those discs. Even when I buy used games, they rarely have noticeable scratches.

Seeing how XB1 now uses Bluray, does this mean PS5 will require a Kinect?
PS5 is doomed!
I see them as new features that separate the consoles from their predecessor, beside the expected increase in processing power.
Not quite. Or, at least, perhaps not.
It's possible that the 360, by virtue of having relatively equal market share, kept Blu-Ray from being a legitimate factor. What if the 360 had launched with a Blu-Ray drive? Can we say for sure that there would not have been improvements across the board? I'm not sure, to be honest, though I bet that cut-scene quality would have gone up.
On the other hand, if Sony had licensed a version of Kinect for the PS4, would it really make a big different in terms of game quality? Personally, I don't think so.
The Fighter Within would be a multi-plat game, sure, but that hardly helps the case for universal Kinect.
Nay I say. I'm glad Blu was "forced" on us - gaming and non gaming purposes. It would have been a pain to play MGS4 on DVDs. Kinect .... meh.
Playstation = The Beast from the East
Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

Smart tv's have motion controls now ala kinect, maybe motion controls will be a mandatory thing for consumers thus force sony to implement a kinect like device for ps5....
They are slightly different. A console needs a disc drive, they just went overboard with it. It's like saying they forced better RAM on the PS4. The Kinect is not required for the console to function.

Yes. Blu-Ray was to be and became the standard HD playback format universal amongst optical playback manufactures. Motion and voice control via Kinect is only the standard for the Xbox One. |
Its pretty safe to argue that Blu-Ray would not have become the standard had it not been included in PS3's.
Microsoft is trying to make voice and visual interaction in home entertainment environment's standard in exactly the same way (and trying to lead it of course).

But not every PS3 purchaser needed or wanted a Bluray player. People were also under the illusion it would give PS3 games a huge edge, but it didn't really happen.
People I know who love gadgets still don't own a Bluray player. They never buy Bluray movies so they never felt the need to get one. Most people nowadays just stream movies.
The only Bluray player I own is in my PS3. I've used it maybe twice. I didn't want it per se, it just came with the box.
