Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Geoff Keighley says Reggie set to deliver "World Premiere" UPDATE Reggie has a folder?!/twitter pics up

It's been hyped too much so anything less than Zelda or Metroid will disappoint.

Zelda U trailer, then at the end, 2014 fades into the screen. curl-6 cringes!

Oh God, I don't think I could take another humiliation after being so wrong about 3D World... XD

Well hey, like before it will be a good thing if (when) you're wrong!

True. I'll become known on VGChartz as the guy who's always wrong, but I'd sacrifice that for an awesome Zelda in 2014!

Oh no, I think that title belongs to me ;)

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Reggie and Co. do seem really relaxed about the Xbone and PS4 hitting the market. Maybe it's just public posturing but Nintendo always seems to have a couple aces up their sleeve. Showing up at VGX also looks to me that Nintendo realized that they screwed up by not doing a BIG E3 press conference.

Or they realized that nothing they had ready to show off was going to have much impact compared to the reveals of Xbone and PS4.

Wait till next year's E3, they'll be back and flying.

I swear to god Reggie. If the big announcement is DK or some 3ds title I will end you.

If this is a 3DS announcement I swear to God, I going to punch a kitten and spam Nintendo with letters, tweets, emails, and facebook comments calling them the morons they are.

Conversely, I want it to be a 3DS title.

Calling it now: World premiere of Zelda U, graphics looking better than in the tech demo. Forums will go mental as hardcore gamers orgasm and declare Nintendo to be relevant again. Then Wii U sales hit new lows in 2014.

Silly Rol, you can't go below the floor!

What were your horribly wrong predictions?

I've mentioned this in the "could it be Zelda?" thread, but figured it's worth raising here, to make people think.

Everyone's asking "what could they show off to VGX?". The correct question isn't that, but "why are they going to VGX, rather than just doing a Nintendo Direct?"

To anybody suggesting possibilities for what they might be showing, you need to be able to answer that question. Why would Nintendo go to VGX to announce Cranky Kong, when they could hold a Donkey Kong Country Nintendo Direct? Why would they go to VGX to reveal the new Zelda (when it's mostly an American event), when they could have a Zelda Direct extravaganza?

I wouldn't pose this question about events that Nintendo have typically attended, like E3, or even events they attend once in a while, like TGS. But they've never attended, or really even paid attention to, the Video Game Awards. So why are they having a special event at this one?

Ok Ninty it is a premiere, dont you dare show us Cranky Kong there!!

To show for the first time, a game no one expects Nintendo to make?...one that they think will resonate well with the audience that pays attention to VGX?

Probably because Ninty needs to draw more attention to the Wii U, and the VGX premiere will be their global spotlight rather than N Direct wich imo is a lot less popular then Reggie showing himself and throwing a lot of saucy things.

I think this is Nintendo starting to fight...

Gamers pay attention to the VGAs, especially with regards to the game announcements. Nintendo showing stuff off is them demonstrating their relevance. If Nintendo were to do a Nintendo Direct, only Ninty fans would pay attention. At the VGAs a lot of 'hardcorexxx' gamers will be watching. Announcing a new Zelda or Metroid or (fingers crossed) F Zero there will give them the chance of building hype outside of their usual fan base.

Nintendo Directs are great in that the speak directly to the fans. But they aren't exactly great in expanding that fan base or showing off your products to people who wouldn't normally pay attention to Nintendo.

The press also pays attention to the VGAs, if Zelda (or whatever gets shown) gets a big reaction, then that's Nintendo shown in a positive light. Even a cheer when Zelda gets announced will say to the 1000s of gamers watching online that it's a game to be excited about.
