Forums - Gaming Discussion - Analyst predicts new Xbox, Nintendo consoles by 2010

As mentioned, that seems pretty short life spans for all the consoles. I think with the rrod issue Microsoft learned its lesson about putting a system out to early. Give the PS3 and Wii a good 6 year life span and Microsoft a 7 year life span, and they will release something in 2012. That is assuming that Nintendo can satisfy demand for the Wii before 2010. I think all three have learned that price makes a huge difference when it comes to sales and so won't push to hard with hardware. Microsoft will need to push harder than Sony since Microsoft hasn't done the built in HD yet which Sony, presumedly, has worked all the kinks out of.

Thats too early for any console.

I can see it-

If the new PS2 motion controls start to eat into the sells of Wii.
If the new EYE TOY for the PS3 is "Revolution"ary.
If there comes some unforeseen sea change.

WHY would it have to be Wii 2?
It could be a 3RD Leg. (Like the DS was supposed to be and was briefly.)

They could CHEAPLY PRODUCE a more powerful SYSTEM that is HD compatible -

(ALL of the components are far more cheaper than they were. As we know that in most countries HD will be the standard. In 2009 people with out a HDTV will need a converter box to receive any Television Programs.)

BUT I don't think that they will release another system until they have some NEW idea or Technology that will set it apart.

[Does the Wii really look that horrible on HD TV's? (Jagged- lines)]

What the HELL? You got it so wrong!!!! You do not need an HDTV to recieve television programs! You need to get rid of antenna tvs! (which surprising no one, even my grandma, has!)

What the fuck? Is this a joke i don't get? What is an antenna TV? Yes you do need HDTV or converter to watch TV (if i recall) in 2009... in Estonia. But considering the population being something over a million, i don't think it will have large effect on worldwide console sales. If you're talking about USA, they are cutting down the analog broadcasts in 2009. You will still be able to see the SD channels, although they are just broadcasted digitally. The same thing happened in Finland last fall (although, analog broadcasts at cable was continued until the end of 2008 feb) and Sweden at the end of the year (they cut down analog OTA and Cable). We still have SD channels, but they just are digital.

It's not HDTV's it TV's with built in digital receivers.  Antenna will need a converter.  Cable will need a box.

BTW, I don't have cable. Neither do 42% of households with TV's & 7.8% of US Households don't have television at all.

Not everyone is a tool who throws there money at large corporations because they are made to feel like they should.

"Analog TVs Will Need Additional Equipment to Receive Over-the-air Television When the DTV Transition Ends

Consumers who rely on antennas (including outside antennas and "rabbit ears") to receive over-the-air broadcast signals on TV sets having only analog tuners will need to obtain separate digital-to-analog set-top converter boxes to watch over-the-air TV. These boxes receive digital signals and convert them into analog format for display on analog TVs. Analog sets connected to such converter boxes will display digital broadcasts, but not necessarily in the full, original digital quality.

Converter Box Coupon Program

Between Jan. 1, 2008, and March 31, 2009, all U.S. households will be eligible to request up to two coupons, worth $40 each, to be used toward the purchase of up to two, digital-to-analog converter boxes. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has responsibility for administering the coupon program. More information can be found at http://www.dtv2009.gov">www.dtv2009.gov.

Cable and Satellite TV

Cable subscribers may need new DTV equipment to view DTV programming in digital format. You should ask your cable provider what you will need and when.

Satellite subscribers may need new DTV equipment to receive and view high definition digital programming. You should ask your satellite company what you will need and when. "

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Possibly. I could see the other companies trying to "rush" things again like MS did with Xbox. I still don't think Wii 2 will be around till 2011 at the earliest.

Antenna TV = not cable, satellite etc. but gets its signal via antenna. The broadcast channels.

Or was that a joke I didn't get?

That's what i thought it would be. But daactualfact said that "you need to get rid" of them, which would mean that OTA-broadcasts would stop completely. So since it clearly isn't "da actual fact", i thought that maybe he was joking. So since daactualfacts grandmother doesn't receive OTA, she's propably on cable or satellite, from which cable is propable in urban and suburban areas anyway. By the way, i'm on cable myself, so i don't need an STB before the end of this month, but i have my late fathers OTA STB, so i bought indoor antenna for the box.

You see the funny thing about this is that these analyst get paid, none of you do, so seriously if they aren't right at least they are still getting paid. In other words they have something to offer.
