Pointless poll as it doesn't have Yes as an option.

I think that was his point.

I think it will definitely sell 5 Million in 2014 for a few reasons:

1) That is relatively easy to do. It's an average of 96K a week including Holiday 2014.

2) 2014 will finally bring a few big games to the Wii U including MK8 & SSB4.

3) Nintendo will release a non-Gamepad version for $200 bundled with Wii Sports Club. I would normally think that Nintendo would never do that but seeing the current state of the system and the fact that the 2DS exists...

So a pointless point. Oxymoron!

-The Wii U will sell around 2 million in 2013 (despite being overtracked in Europe).

-It looks like the Wii U might just barely cross the 5 million mark this year, maybe less.

-The Wii U doesn't usually sell more the Vita and Vita can't manage to sell 5 million in a year.

Do you think sales will pick up 250% year on year? This hasn't happened with a console ever (using full years worth of data)

Can the Wii U sell another 5 million units next year?

Discuss and enjoy

DS sales in 2005: 11 million

DS sales in 2006: 20.7 million

As for Wii U in 2013, it's already at 1.85 million - are you really going to claim that, in the five holiday weeks of the year, the Wii U isn't going to sell more than 30k a week, when it sold 111k in the week before the week of Black Friday? Even if we assume it holds steady (it's going to increase, but let's ignore that), it would sell 2.4 million units, meaning it will have sold more in 2013 than in 2012. A more reasonable estimate would place weekly Wii U sales in December closer to 250k than 111k, which would get the Wii U to more than 3 million, easily getting it past the 5 million mark in terms of total sales. And if Nintendo has a strong enough marketing campaign for the holidays, I could see Wii U weekly sales getting up around 400k, which would be enough for them to nearly sell 2 million units just within the holiday period itself. To put the numbers into perspective, the Xbox 360, in December 2006, sold 2 million units. It was typically selling about 300-400k a month in the months prior to that (not counting November). The Wii U was selling about 100k a month through the early part of 2013, but jumped to 200k a month in September after the price drop. Using 200k as the baseline, a reasonable number of units for the Wii U to sell in the holidays would be about 1-1.3 million, which would be somewhere between 250k and 320k a week. And Nintendo systems typically sell better in holidays.

Meanwhile, you fail basic mathematics. An increase from 2 million to 5 million is a pick up of 150%, not 250%. A 100% increase in sales means a doubling - which was easily achieved by the DS. The Wii U would only need such a doubling to make 10 million, and it has releases such as Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2, X, Yarn Yoshi, and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze already announced for 2014, as well as the third Sonic game, all exclusives, many of which are expected in the first half of the year, with Nintendo being known for keeping a lot of games secret until close to release. So I really do think it's more than capable of doing it.

definitely....

Considering Wii U sold 4 million in a year in the state it was, yes.

I'm not expecting it anymore. The sales are not improving at all!! I was thinking it will get to 40 million LTD when it first released, but now....

At best it will reach 5 million units sold globally by the end of the financial year

They have been improving actually. Remember it used to do around 20k a week for a good long while.

You're coming dangerously close to flamebait with the volume of threads you're running, toastboy. Be wary.
