Why not? Are you expecting the PS4/XB1 to sell like the Wii?

I think some people are hoping for a PS2-like return to glory for the PS4, but I don't know if there are enough consumers to give PS4 those numbers while two other consoles sell well also.  I guess we'll see, each gen the consumer base grows.

I thought even the PS2 only had an average first year, and that the Wii was the only exception? Also, I don't think we'll see an increase this generation unfortunately. PS4/XB1 would both have to sell way more than the PS2 ever did to offset the 3DS/Vita/Wii U selling less than their predecessors.

*unnecessary wall-o-text*

Jesus! It woulda been a lot easier just to say "PS2 sold similarly to Wii in their first year" and "8th gen will see an increase because each gen has out done the previous one." Unfortunately the latter isn't going to hold true anymore. 3DS, Vita, and Wii U are selling worse than their predecessors. Being generous, their lifetime sales are probably gonna end up like 90m, 40m, and 40m respectively, for a total of 170m. That means in order for 8th gen to out do 7th gen's 500m, the PS4/XB1 need to sell more than 330m combined. Needless to say, that's just not happening.

Price + Power + Massive Third Party Support.  If PS3 had been as powerful as it was and had launched at $350 Wii wouldn't have got off the ground.  Notice the cheaper PS3 became the less Wii sold.

What?! Just no ..... you can't be serious. You think the Wii audience would have bought a PS3 instead? It didn't offer them what they wanted remotely. Wii could have been $400 and it'd still sold gangbusters.

Why does his claim sound so preposterous to you? I think it's very probable. Price does matter, as price is one of the things that hobble the PS3's sales (in past eras, it's what rendered the Neo Geo a niche platform for only the the wealthiest gamers). Had everything else been identical (specs, etc.) but the PS3 cost $350 and the Wii $400, then I do think the PS3 would have sold a lot better and the Wii a lot worse. And the "Wii audience" is are largely gamers with no particular brand loyalty. Many if not most gamers, especially in America are "swing voters" that all the major brands are competing for. Nintendo wasn't just offering quality games and new ways to play games, but they also offered it at a bargain price. Being the best value for one's dollar is what drove people back to Nintendo, not an influx of "casuals" or any of the other common theories.

Then again, this whole scenario isn't very realistic to begin with . The PS3 didn't really have any killer apps until late 2007 when games like Uncharted debuted, so the lower price would have helped only so much, perhaps only enhancing the first year of two of sales by a few million units. Also, SCE would probably have been crippled as they'd be bleeding $450+ per system sold if they sold a system that cost over $800 to make at less than half that, so a $350 PS3 would have likely lacked Blu-ray and been less powerful than what it was. Also, if the Wii did cost $400, it would have been a lot more powerful than it was, perhaps being sufficient to draw in third-party developers, thus causing big games like COD, Assassin's Creed, and GTA to be split three ways as all the systems would have been roughly on par with each other. This in turn would have resulted in the Wii still selling well today due to a better selection of games and solid long-term support, perhaps even being on track to surpass the PS2.

No. The Wii audience were new and came in because of wii mote and wii sports, something not offered by PS3. It would not have got that audience. That's all I have to say on the matter, it's that simple!

Nobody else believes Nintendo will release a version without the Gamepad next year I see.

That would be the one and only way I'd ever purchase one.  I'm hoping.

Why? The gamepad is great. It is even being copied by vita and AC:IV app for tablets. Dual screen can be very useful.

Besides, that didn't worked well for kinect. Those things need to be sold together.

it most likely will cause mario kart 8 and smash bros. and a few others

A price drop will happen Spring 2014. Just in time for that Mario Kart bundle. BOOM

not only specting, they will

i think no home console will ever do that again, like you said, not enough consumers, the casual gaming sector is drawn by smartphones and haldhelds like the DS, and old hard core gamers are not enough to get those numbers, many of the gamers of that era are not gamers anymore and new gamers are most likely retarded that doesnt know what a good game is and only play halo and other pupular games, or smartphone games, but i really think both the ps4 and the xbone will outsell wii, and of course wiiu, well that thing will be most likely out sell by the end of january, with luck by te end of this year

I love how there isn't even a yes answer XD I think it has a chance... sorta..

I make videos that are sometimes funny I think?

Check out my Youtube gaming channel here!

About the OP question, i think it will be able to reach that easily, without any price cuts until the end of the year.

Btw, while adding value with bundles are a great move, i don't think cutting the price even more atm is the answer.

Based on the poll results the vast majority of vgchartz doesn't believe in the Wii U!!
