Forums - Gaming Discussion - Amazon announces drone delivery service (no joke)

That's pretty cool, Jetsons-esque but in reality I could see those drones crashing into birds or even kids who aren't look at which way they're running around in the front yard.

Also its likely idiots and kids would try to shoot them down.

Wait...so would some pilot it or would it have GPS? My guess is the latter so it would land my package in my front yard and leave or would I need to come out and sign off before it leaves? How expensive are these, because I could see people trying to steal or damage these drones.

I will be amazed if these actually works.

I would think they are to be manned. Someone needs to keep an eye on their investment, not to mention GPS algorythms aren't exactly crash or theft-proof. Google's auto cars still aren't, and they pack way more apparatus than a lightweight drone.

That seems like a big investment.  Only way I see Amazon doing well with this is if people are willing to pay a massive premium for this service.  Have to wonder what items people need that quickly.  I have no issue waiting 8-10 days for a DVD or game or anything order from them.

Your idea is already being tested.

who thought of such a stupid idea....it certainly wasnt me.

Cyber Monday PR stunt.

the day they start doing this in my area, is the day i start ordering packages to random houses and stealing the drones as they arrive.

Edit:   All joking aside i dont see this ever becoming bigger then maybe a trial at some locations close to a wearhouse.   The amount of drones that would be required to deliver everything in a timely manner.  they would only be able to make 1 delivery at a time, having to return to the wearhouse each time.  that is massively time consuming.  its way easier to have a guy with a truck that can carry hundreds of packages.

I am Torgo, I take care of the place while the master is away.

"Hes the clown that makes the dark side fun.. Torgo!"

Ha.. i won my bet, but i wasnt around to gloat because im on a better forum!  See ya guys on Viz

I would assume that like any postal service law, intercepting mail will be a federal offense.

Aside from, that, I lol'd at how weird that was. Fucking cool as shit, but gee, wow, weird.

Obviously a limited service for certain areas as it can't deliver to people living in a block of flats, tower blocks, certain apartment complexes etc... As amusing as people shooting the drones down sounds as a joke I actually think the are enough nutters out there to try it and cause Amazon grief.

The drones will have a plasma shield

and then shoot back??

They revealed it on 60 minutes last night. Doubt it's just a stunt.

Cool idea but not very practical I'm sure they can only properly work in ideal weather situations so no drone deliveries when its raining or high wind. Also they can only deliver to certain locations and I'm sure they can only deliver small orders (less then 20 pounds in weight).
