Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why are some Nintendo fans so opposed to going third party?

Because the pressure of having to carry a hardware platform is in part what pushes Nintendo dev teams to try so hard.

Look at how crap Sega is nowadays.

Nintendo will accept a buy-out/merger with Disney, Microsoft, Apple, or Google before they ever go third party IMO.

Lolz

Sale your soul rather then become the top 3rd party dame developer over night, makes total sense.  All the resources they could flood into game dev if they dropped hardware, they may put ea out of busniess.

Microsoft, Disney, Apple would be all over Nintendo, the cash being thrown at Nintendo would dwarf the dinky little game industry, they are a franchise property powerhouse, more akin to a Japanese Walt Disney.

EA makes totally different games from Nintendo so that comment doesn't even make sense. Nintendo is going to suddenly start making NFL football games if they don't make hardware?

Sega isn't in that bad of shape financially. Have you seen all the buyouts they have been doing? They were the first ones to the scene when Atlus and THQ sold their stuff. Yet we still are getting stuff like Sonic Lost World. Although I will admit that may be because Sega decided to halt development at half finished because of Wii U software sales.

Yeah they're profitable now. But that's because when they went third party they had to undergo massive restructuring and lost a lot of talented devs, hence the lowered quality. Nintendo wouldn't have to do the same.. And Sonic Lost World isn't that bad. Just needed more time, which like you, I suspect they didn't have much choice about.

Also, yes I am opposed to a takeover because I don't like Sony and Microsoft. They aren't innovative companies. They are going to drive the console industry into a wall soon I'm sure. If you keep doing the same thing that everyone else is doing you are bound to fail. Nintendo knows that, Microsoft figured it out. Sony just doesn't get it. Maybe it won't kill them this gen, but next gen?

Microsoft on the other hand is one of those companies which uses its succesful products to push others onto people. IE Windows 8. IE Xbox Live Accounts. IE Kinect... They are the first ones who will jump onto DRMs if the chance comes up.

Simple: because consoles are integral part of their business.

If Nintendo goes third party any day, it will be through partnership with another company for a new device and NOT simply as a developer for other companies machines

I may hint that they´re already preparing themselves for that.

Because Nintendo is the only console manufacturer who dares to try something new.

I like the Wiimote+Nunchuk controls for many games (like Shooter, Strategy, Adventure) and I like the gamepad (being skeptical at first, but now I don't want to miss it). Even the new Mario 3D World is better played with Wiimote+Nunchuk than with a standard controller (or gamepad controls).

If there was no Nintendo hardware I was stuck with a PS4 or Xbox One, that is PCs in a console box, but with worse controls than a PC. Kinect is nothing more than a gimmick (a criticism that some used misleadingly for Wiimote or Gamepad), and totally irrelevant for the type of games I play (Adventure, Shooter, RPG, Strategy etc.)

But I don't fear that Nintendo goes third party. At the end they will make the profit with the Wii U, even the gamecube was more profitable than the PS2.

Well then I'd have to buy Sony consoles, which tend to cost more.

For instance, if I had instead bought a Vita when I bought my 3DS, I would have spent $80 more on hardware -- that's two full retail games. I haven't bought a Wii U yet, but of course at the moment the PS4 costs $100 more than the Wii U.

Hell, I bet I spent less than $600 on my launch Wii and all of the Wii games I own together.

But you'd be getting your money's worth with power and 3rd party support.

OT: Honestly if it doesn't hurt Nintendo I'm for it. Having one console with Nintendo games and most 3rd party games would be ideal for me.

Definitely agree about the controller innovation. The wiimote and gamepad appeals to me so much more than the pro controller or anything MS and Sony are doing. Good point.

Lol Purple your op is so bad lol. You mention 3D World being outsold by Knack like that wasn't only in the UK lol. Might I also add that as long as Micro and Sony fail to beat Nintys handhelds...they will never go 3rd party.

I maybe just a rumor, but remember that Nintendo had concepts and projects of motion controls, user avatars (miis) , online content distribution and online gaming since early 80´s.

They´re probably experimenting with tablet gaming or something else right now.
