As it was the first Zelda game i've played from start to finish, I can honestly say it's one of my favourite Zelda games! The plot really captivated me, and the gameplay was top notch! Since then, I finished many of the other games. The only game in the series that I like more than Skyward Sword is Majora's Mask :D

Always love hearing fan stories like this. MM is great isn't it? :)

@DevilRising. At first I didn't get motion controls for menu selection but now I actually prefer it, being a bit lazy. I think gamers should be given the option at every possibility though.

Majora's Mask is definitely great! My favourite Zelda game so far :)

Not only my favorite Zelda but also quite possibly my favorite game of all time.

Best story telling of all Zelda game imo. Best dongeons, best items, The lack of exploration was a downer but it was in favor of making the overworld feel like a dongeons so it was worth it. For the first time the overworld never felt boring. Great music like all Zelda games. Best characters. Never fell in love with Zelda as a character as strongly as I did for this game. Also loved the motion control, it worked really well despite what many haters are claiming, all you had to do was play in a relaxed state of mind, do clear and smooth move with your arms, if you played all stressed out while shaiking roughly it did'nt work. With the motion control for the first time in a Zelda game I enjoyed fighting from start to finish and felt like a bad ass. And not only for the combat but also the motion+ made using items like bombs/bow/beetle so much enjoyable. I also enjoyed flying around.

The only real cons imo were the boss battles, both Girhahim and The Imprisoned were a drag. Also to much handholding when it came to sidequests and finding hearts, As for Fi, yes she was sometime annoying, but who cares? She was still a charming character.

It's a good game that goes on too long imo. I loved the first 20 hours to death, and then wanted it to end after that for like the next 15 hours.
I like this artstyle a lot, and I hated WW's artstyle.
It has the best combat in any zelda game because of motion controls imo.

However because of motion controls they tacked on a lot of crappy things.
Motion controls still don't always do what you tell them.
Fi is a negative.
Too many prompts that interupt gameplay.

The best Zelda game, but not hands down. Twilight Princess is an extremely close second.

I enjoyed it and my kids enjoyed it. The art style managed to make it look good even on really really dated hardware.

The gameplay was also really great... didn't even realize it was motion control gimmick crap.

Only negative really is that it felt lazy because they didn't bother to have an open world to explore and discover... made everything feel too guided and linear

Top their Zelda game in my opinion. I loved the art design. Loved the sound track. Loved the sound design. (seriously, musical hits for every sword slash needs to become a Zelda staple) The story was undoubtably the best and most cinematic in the series. Zelda was the most likable in the series in my opinion and I really hope that her characterization becomes a staple personality for her from now on. Ghirahim is my favorite Zelda villain of all time. I love Groose, and I hope he becomes a staple as well. I loved the freedom felt from flying on the lofting and I hope that returns in some way. I loved a lot of the dungeons, especially the dungeon where you use the whip.

Didn't like how they reused boss fights. (I'm looking at you Ghirahim and The Imprisoned) It's annoying because I liked the last fight for each of them, ESPECIALLY Ghirahim's. Hated Demise. Terrible "real" villain in that he wasn't present at all. They could have at least given him some characterization during the first two imprisoned fights. They could have had him take over Groose's body as a vessel. They could have done so many things to justify him coming out of no where, but the didn't.

I hated needing to constantly recalibrate the remote. I hated the motion controls on the shield. I didn't like the bomb rolling controls. I liked all of the rest of the motion controls for what they were (I LOVED the bow and arrow controls) but I rather they not become a staple.

I hated the stamina bar. Seriously. Link can finally run, and you put a timer on it!?

I never noticed the linearity personally because I was always doing something. After playing ALBW though, I'm ready for a real open world Zelda but pact with Skyward Sword-dense content.

I loved Fi... As a character. Not my favorite (Midna and Elzo) but definitely a close second.

All and all though, those were minor gripes that I only noticed or cared about in retrospect. 9.3/10 for me.

Skyward Sword is one of the most polarizing Zelda games. Some fans sound their horns in praise, while some are more critical. It's now a bit older, and any initial hype has worn down. Many people (myself included) have had a chance to play it twice. So what do you think of it?

Skyward Sword is overall a disappointment to me. It has my two all time favorite dungeons in a Zelda game, and some very cool sections, but the EXTREME padding, lack of exploration, hand holding, and back tracking ruin it for me.

So what is the VGcharters general opinion of the game?

This, also, I know I am in the minority when I say this, apart from one or two songs, I was disappointed by the soundtrack... To me it didn't sound like Zelda music, and it wasn't very memorable...  It is odd because this was the aspect of the game I was looking forward to the most after they announced that it would get the full orchestral treatment that Mario Galaxy series got... Now those were masterpieces.

It is a decent game overall, I like the artstyle and the story.  For a Nintendo game it has some pretty decent character development (Groose is one of my favourite characters).
Motion controls were both enjoyable and frustrating.  It was cool for one game but not something I would want to see again.
