Forums - Politics Discussion - Where are you on the political compass?

Right guys, I appreciate the (somewhat) intelligent discussion, but can we make a separate topic for this Obama thing before this thread gets locked? xD

economic policy?

expanding the welfare state, lengthening unemployement benefits. Socialized heathcare. increasing taxes on everybody, especially higher income earners. "spreading the weath around" he was a member of a communist party. increasing spending on everything, at a higher rate than anybody before him. him continually proping up business that the government seems worthy, especially of the "green" variety. most/all turning out to be economicall unsolvible.

These are all true. But he's still a conservative. Americans seem to have this very black and white view of politics. They seem to think you're either liberal or conservative, which is a load of crap. You can have some conservative values and still be liberal. You can have some liberal values, like Obama does, but still be a conservative.

The only true liberals to really run for president in the US in recent memory have been the likes of Jill Stein and Ralph Nader.

you seem to not know what the word conservative means

In the rest of the world, conservatism can endore the wellfare state. Even in the 1960's, British conservatives loved the idea of a wellfare state. Obama also cut taxes for middle class families. I'd like to see this proof that Obama was a member of a communist party, even if he was, views can change.

Obama has kept troops in Afghan longer than he promised and is going to have them in there for much longer. He's increased drone strikes. He's pursued more whistleblowers than Bush did. He kept Guantanimo Bay open. He's kept the USA's hypocritical foreign policies against Cuba open. He's kept the US aggressive and hypocritical foreign policy and general going.

If he was progressive he would stop this ridiculous drug law which has been failling for decades.

He is not a progressive.

at boled no he didnt.

New Party - chicago. communist party, he was a member of.

Now a days Obama is about as close to being a communist as I am to being a talking sofa.

so that means today i not only discovered we have girls on these forums (vikki), we also have a sofa.

my point stands

No, your point doesn't stand. Obama's current policies directly contradict many essential tenants of Communism. A Communist would most definitely not support GMOs with anything resembling the Monsanto Protection Act. How on earth are Obama's tax policies progressive in the slightest? No offense but with such an asinine username I didn't expect much logical discourse but I know that nobody can be stupid enough to actually believe that Obama is a Communist. The odd socialist leaning a Communist does not make.

first i didnt claim he was a communist, i said he was a member of a communist party.

2nd how is increasing taxes on everybody, especially higher income earners not progressive. our tax structure before him was already a progressive system.

Obama is a statist.

also government interfering/getting in bed with businesses, therefor influencing/dictating what they do has kinda been a major reaccuring theme in all communist regimes.

I'm not at all surprised by how my chart came out.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

@SocialistSlayer

Another thing about Obama. What kind of Communist bails out banks? What kind of Communist allows corporate subsidies to grow to their current levels hmm? I can not believe that I am having this discussion. Why even acknowledge such foolishness? I must be tired.

Go north of France to countires like the Netherlands, Belgium, the whole of Scandanavia, the UK and Obama would be laughed out of parliament if he called himself left leaning.

not true at all he'd be lock step with them the whole way. in fact he'd probably admit to being a socialist because it wouldnt be so politically toxic over there as it is in the States.

furthermore, the only policies of his that couldnt be construed as communist or socialist, or just authoritarian in general can purely be atributed to him not getting an aportunity to change them whether it be from it being politically suicide or just gridlock in washington.

but to answer your question, a communist who wants control over said banks.

its essentially a more "capitalist" way of owning and controlling a business and its means of production.

is it really that hard to understand?
